I've tried for years to think like a hamster but can't figure them out.

My guess would be that Davy will sleep in the room on the left and hopefully keep a hoard there, pee and hoard in the room opposite and ignore the room with entrance.

But with the hole in the roof he may not want to nest in this room because it won't be dark and a robber could get in.

What is the other assembly option?

OK so you can just reverse the entry holes. The ground level one could be on the left bit and the roof one could be on the right corner.

I think it's a matter of trying it out and see what he does and where.

Davy may like a bedroom that is not dark and has a roof entrance. Who knows.
He slept in the dark corner of the house while here and most hamsters prefer it dark.

I think he will like the new house. The rooms seem cosy & it is well made.

That reminds me of the first bin cage i made for rescue dwarfs. It had a sunflower tape and i called it Sunflower Lodge.

Hi all

Davy’s new house is here! As you may remember I originally ordered the massive one with lots of rooms but it seemed to take a lot of room up in his cage and I thought he might get confused, or may not use all the rooms as he’s only little!

This corner one is much more ‘him’ (but what do I know?).

Question: if you were a Hamster which of the rooms would you choose for your Bedroom, Ensuite & Food store. (I know you are gonna say he will probably put everything in one room!).

I need to paint it yet but here are couple of pics…

The house seems similar to the ones Rodipet used to do like that. You could put a dish over the top hole - then he would nest in that room as it would be the darkest room, round the corner away from the entrance. You could then put the toilet in either the middle compartment or the entrance compartment, but either way he would probably need to walk through it on his way in and out as it would take up a fair bit of the room.

If you want to keep the top entrance, then you could just see what he does first, as Beryl says. He may just stuff up the top entrance with paper anyway, so it's dark inside in two rooms mainly. Then see where he has decided to nest and pee and put the toilet in after you know where he's peeing.

I am going to keep his corner ceramic Rodipet toilet that Beryl gave me. Its only small so won’t take up much space although it will need changing more often. I will try it in the entrance room, the one with the door at the side.

Then I was going to put some of his old bedding in the middle room, along with some fresh toilet paper. And some of his hoard in the final room, with the hole at the top.

Then wait for him to change it all round

I just read on another thread that Davy's Silent Runner keeps moving along the bars. Easy to sort by adding a washer on each side.

Yes, plates against the bars on each side and then a washer followed by the rest.

If your SR has a bolt in the middle i hold that in place with pliers while tightening it. If it has the plastic disc i hold it in place with my hand.

I used to have problems with them working loose but not since i've added washers.

I'd give him what he prefers though. If he likes the Trixie better and doesn't jam or knock over a wheel on a stand you could always swap them over.
