Droppie

I can practice with the taxi for a few more days but i think she is fine with it, she walks in herself and has a snack there. I worry about being in the carrier gives her too much stress, maybe wait a few more days?

If she doesn’t pee in her nest I would wait a few days, if you are sure she pees there, I would definitely clean if it is still fairly hot weather. I was shocked by the smell when I first cleaned my hamsters nest 🪹
He used to pee and stash his food there, a very bad situation 🥴
I would put a special treat and some of her bedding in the carrier and if it’s big enough a small hideout. Even if she is not so happy about it, better than sleeping in a stinking nest 🫶

I do smell something when i walk past her tank, will see if i can do a small spotclean in the next few days.
Maybe i smell her wheel, she pees in it  but i clean the wheel every day.

That’s exactly what I experienced. Then I decided to spot clean his nest and I can assure you it was well needed. It stank so terrible I had to wash my hands multiple times to get rid of the smell. I think it is very unhealthy for any animal to sleep in a stinky environment and a few minutes stress (worst case) is less dangerous for a hamster than sleeping all day in a nest full of ammonia. 🌺🌺 but everyone has a different opinion on this matter.

To be honest, i probably did a lot of things different from what is advised, my hamster is such a chilled little companion. He was very skittish at the beginning, but he’s got used to being handled. Meanwhile he is very curious and extremely nosey, he has learnt: not everything is as dangerous as it seems 😅
I clean his multi chamber house daily and he always has a fresh bed to sleep in as he has learnt to pee in his toilet in the en-suite. He doesn’t mind me cleaning at all, he sits in his playpen usually on his wheel watching me and grooming himself. He loves his clean nest ❤️

Yes, it's best to have an ammonia free nest so it might be better to clean out the soiled bedding 👍❤️

I did a spotclean today, couldn't find a wet spot in het nest or anywhere else in the bedding, but the wooden platforms where smelly, so i had to take them out en clean them. I also had to change the layout a bit. She didn't seem to mind, i left her bedding in and used the same houses.

That’s great that she is not a nest pee’er 😅 I bet she is happy when it smells better, especially in summer
