Henry

Thanks for the well wishes, I'm thrilled to see him so happy too. I spent some time sitting next to him last night, he's getting more curious and pawing at the bin a bit to investigate me.

Henry's initial exuberance at the Niteangel has worn off, he goes around the bin at a mellow pace. Still full go on the wheel, he's settled in very nicely.

I do have a playpen but haven't had good results in the past with it. Maybe I will use the bedroom first until he learns the hamster taxi routine. I feel like waiting a little bit more, it seems like he will tell me when he's ready pretty soon.

It's Henry's 16th day with me, he seems to be over our one bad interaction when I confused him with the smell from scented soap. That did set him back about a week or so

He'll be ready in his own time :) Just go with what feels right. Some people say the hamster will let you know when they're ready. Others just do it after about 2 weeks. But if he's had a setback for a week then maybe wait three weeks.

I tried tonight, and he just wasn't interested. Pretty wary and did a meerkat plus a freeze. He's still a bit curious, but not enough to consider trying the hand any further. I need to up my treat game. Dried mealworms aren't up his alley at all, next time I'll try a piece of cashew and other things.

Not sure how he managed to do it with how fast he goes, but Henry was wearing a piece of bedding for an hour last night.

I did try another interaction with a pumpkin seed, cashew, peanut, and sunflower seed, but still not quite there. He's at least approaching and nosing my hand now, some small progress.

Henry finally climbed on my hand for a bit tonight, he took a tiny bit of pumpkin seed and went about his day.

He's super gentle and shy when interacting, then when I'm out of the bin it's right back to full go! I can't wait to see more of his personality come through

Henry took a big step forward today, sat on my hand for a good two minutes. Pumpkin seeds are his treat of choice it seems, and he is an absolute angel with handling. He's starting to get curious about me, exploring the hand and arm a bit. I also found he likes to get a good look at me, I get a good reaction out of him when I lower to face level for him.

He also loves that side of the enclosure when it's time to zoom, it's officially the Henry Highway now. It took a bit longer to get here than with previous hams, and in hindsight that soap really confused him bad. He doesn't even nibble, those bites in the past were a one time thing at the scary smell.

Henry has landed

And when he's not interested, he shows me he's uncertain to use his highway. Then goes to the burrow. Pretty clear no signs for next time.

Not interested, please leave
