How to keep a hamster cool

That cooling house does look good...pity its not a bit bigger.

You can do things like put any ceramic or terracotta hides in the fridge and give them to Jas when they are cold. You could try putting her sand in the fridge and putting it back in her sand box when that is cool. You could get a marble tile or what is known as a cooling tile for her to sit or lie on.
You can also soak terra cotta in water and it will stay cooler due to evaporation. However, if the humidity gets too high the evaporative cooling doesn't work as well :(

Yes teracotta is great for that :-) And it soaks up drips from water bottles!

You’re best off getting the bucatstate castle hide! It’s got a secret compartment at the top and you can put ice packs in, so it keeps it nice and cool without concern!

Yes those are great :-) Both my hamsters have them. They don't seem to be selling them on Amazon any more at the moment though for some reason - I checked the other day.

That's a great idea! Photos please :-) And tips!

That is very creative :-) They look great.

I am trying to cool Luna down but she won't get in a mug, I might try frozen peas around the side of the cage. She is hating this poor girl.

Yes, I am longing for the heat wave to shift. The frozen peas is a good idea, should take off some of the heat 👍

Aw she does look a bit flaked. Do you have anything terracotta in the cage? I have a terractotta plant pot base under a water bottle - that can go in the fridge to be cooled and they sometimes like to sit on it to cool off. A mug is maybe not big enough for her to consider perhaps :-) Or she just prefers her coconut!

I'm actually rather partial to the heatwave! It's tiring but relaxing as well. Not so nice for hamsters though.

I could do with some ideas. I am going on holiday for a week in just over a week’s time. The weather forecast looks pretty hot still for the south east of the U.K. which will be perfect for my holiday by the sea, but not so ideal for leaving Blossom 🌸 Blossom is faring ok in the heat at the moment, but I’ve been opening all the doors and windows early morning and late evening to cool the house down at least a bit. The curtains are all closed during the day which helps. My neighbour is going to pop into feed her early evening which is fine, but the house will be closed up. Not sure what else I can do 🤔 Any ideas 💡

The weather is so unpredictable - it could be cool and rainy in a week's time :-) I would keep an eye on the forecast. However maybe you could ask your neighbour to open the windows when she comes to feed, if it's hot. Keeping the curtains closed will help as well. Do you have a hamstercam? You can actually view the hamster on your phone wherever you are with that :-) (Assuming it's in the uk). It can be quite reassuring. Although my pet sitter felt slightly embarrased about walking in front of it when feeding the hamsters.
