Hoping that Lilly continues to respond to the meds and seems comfortable. So hard for you and really hoping things go well with the vet.

Quite a few of my hamsters have been on Metacam/Loxicom and some of them long term but i have never observed any side effects.

Not the result we had hoped for. It is not an abcess. It is a mass that could be cancerous.
Further tests in the lab wouldn't change the outcome but i'm going to opt for the surgery. I asked if a scan would give an indication on whether it has spread or not should it be cancer but Lilly is so small that a scan wouldn't give a reliable result.
A biopsy after surgery would help with a prognosis but again, it wouldn't change the outcome so i'm not going to go for that.

Lilly is on Baytril and Loxicom to keep her comfortable and to see if it affects the mass, i.e. shrink it. The hospital will phone me on Monday to arrange for surgery and in the meantime i'm going to make a hospital bin cage.

Lilly herself wasn't too phased by the vet visit but she appears tired. She's probably a bit zonked from the Loxicom which she loves. She gobbles it just like Ozzy used to.
Oh bless her at least she is with someone who will make sure she is kept as comfortable as possible my thoughts are with you

I just made up a transport box for Lilly and tomorrow i'll make a matching bin hospital cage for her. I like to be prepared.

She's sleeping in her ceramic hide which is not a place she's ever slept in.
I think she's trying to cool the growth which of course brings back memories of Clarissa's behaviour.

Lilly lapped up the metacam at 16.00 but now it's time for the baytril which won't go down so well.

I am sorry to hear this. I know the reminder of Clarissa behaving similarly will be upsetting. I will be thinking of sweet Lilly tomorrow.

It must be so hard to be reminded of Clarissa like this, you are doing everything you can to keep Lilly comfortable & give her the best chance of a good recovery, I really hope all goes well for her.

That worked. I smeared a tiny bit of banana on the tip of the syringe. Soon as Lilly started to lick it off i squirted the tiny amount of baytril into her mouth. She jumped back a bit and started to wash but at least she had it and with both medications i didn't have to take her out of her cage and hold her in a flannel. Less stress for her.

Yes it must remind you of Clarissa - that’s hard. I hope it all goes very smoothly tomorrow.

Clever idea with the baytril!

Yes, there are significant similarities and i have a few theories swirring around in my head and neither of them is good.

Try not to worry too much. The lump is in a different place isn’t it? And maybe not so large.

It looks completely different. Clarissa's was an internal mass. Lilly's is an external growth if that makes any sense.

Great idea with the baytril anything that makes it less stressful is good.
It’s easy to say try not to worry or think to far ahead especially when you get that I’ve been here before feeling but there iss stil every chance things could be much more simple & treatable for Lilly.

Thank you all. We'll just have to wait and see. At least i have good vets which is a lot to be grateful for.

Lilly's surgery is booked for this Thursday 22nd and her regular vet will operate.

I'm just working on her hospital bin cage.
I have large books to raise her cage, a snuggle safe to put underneath if needed and the £250 to pay the bill.

Let's hope that luck is going to be on our side.

It sounds like you have everything prepared. It must feel like a wait until Thursday.
