Sorry to hear this. Hopefully metacam will be all she needs to be back to her usual, energetic self.

I think that metacam is all that can be done for her.
My plan is to make an appt with her vet for a nail trim which probably needs a little gas and at the same time vet can get a good look at the rest of Lilly.
The vet trimmed her nails while she was still whoozy after surgery.
Some dwarfs grow long nails and some don't, no matter what's in their cage trying to keep them short. All my female dwarfs grew long nails but never the males, curiously enough.

That is interesting. I wonder if female dwarfs nails grow quicker then males.

The likely explanation would be hormonal but more likely to be a coincidence.

All my Russian’s nails grew fairly quickly, it’s hard to remember now but I don’t think Mickle’s grew any faster than the boys.

Sorry to hear Lilly isn't too good again. Hopefully the pain relief will help and she'll be back to herself again soon 💕

Hoping it's not too serious, can't wait to hear how the vet visit goes.

Sorry to hear Lilly is not so well. Hope the trip to the vets goes smoothly and some metcam helps any ailments. She’s such a cuteee.

It looks like her back legs aren't working properly and she fell over again. She gets about ok but not like she normally does.
I suspect that she's had a mild stroke. Some hamsters recover from that, if that's the case.

I'll phone the vet tomorrow morning to get an appt with her regular vet which could take a few days. It's not an emergency at the moment because i have metacam for her and i doubt that there's anything else a vet could do for her.

She's not using her wheels which indicates that she doesn't have the strength in her back legs to turn it.

Poor Lilly. I hope you get a quick vet appointment. Sending Lilly hugs from Albert and me 💕

A mild stroke is definitely one possibility, if that is the case then she could still recover more use of her legs, only time will tell with that but the metacam will be helping her.
I hope the vet can help too.

I've got a feeling that Lilly will recover. I just had a "chat" with her. Sounds daft, i know, hard to explain.

I spent quite a bit of time by her cage. She didn't want to come out, i offered the taxi a few times. She was very interactive though.
She ate all her fresh food while i was watching and she run up and down the ramps. It was a bit of a struggle but she managed. It was almost like she wanted to show me that she can do it.

Time will tell. Even if Lilly doesn't get the full use of her back legs back, i know that she'd cope and it wouldn't hold her back.

I really hope she recovers, glad to hear she's out and about.

Having a chat with Lilly doesn’t sound daft at all.
She’s got so much spirit I don’t think this is going to hold her back & hopefully she will recover.

Pleased to hear this Lilly will find her way of coping

Lilly's vet is on hols this week so i made an appt for Monday. I have enough metacam until then and don't want to take her to another vet unless she deteriorates.

Poor Lilly couldn't get into her favourite dig box. She looked surprised herself that her back legs didn't work properly. I've got an idea on how to sort the dig box for her tomorrow.

I don't think that she's in pain and her spirit isn't dampened by her disability.
I cleaned her sandbath today and she kept throwing herself at my hand to get it out of her territory.

She isn't limping and she weight bears but the back legs look like splayed legs now, turning outwards and don't have the strength to climb.

She gets about in her cage and i'm glad that i didn't shorten her long, shallow ramp when i set up her cage.

Sorry to hear that Lilly is unwell. Just to add to the other possibilities, sometimes reproductive issues like pyometra or ovarian cysts can cause back leg weakness. It can be in one leg or both and it can be intermittent. I'm not sure of the mechanism behind it but it's anecdotally reported.

Hopefully it can be treated whatever it is.

I didn't know that gynea problems could cause that as well but would it come on so sudden, practically overnight?

Thank you for the info.
