Probably depends on personality regardless of species. Maybe all the vocals ones are here because i have so many.
Law of averages if you have enough you are bound to get one 👍😀

Lilly seems to be on a mission to move every morsel of food from the digbox to her home.
Three times she was out this morning.

The first time she dug way down in the big box with the beech chips and turned the carrot house upsidedown. Eddie sat on his shelf and gave me one of his looks.

The second time she was rummaging around the smaller box with the cork granules and the third time she rearranged the little logs in the snuffle box in her mission to pouch anything edible.

She's very methodical and focused.
I definitely had Lilly in mind when i decided to contain all digboxes in one big box, lol.

Lilly clearly thinks that was a great idea to have all the boxes together like that!
She seems pretty detemined not to share anything with those boys!

I think that Lilly is aware of Eddie. She sat under the helmet for a while inbetween foraging. Late last night Eddie sat under the helmet and refused to badge when i called him because i wanted to go to bed. The little devil just wouldn't come out from under the helmet! In the end i went downstairs to fetch a new whimzee which tempted him out far enough for me to scoop him up in my hands while he was holding the whimzee in his mouth! Eddie has been coming out a lot more lately which may have something to do with Lilly clearing the shelves.

They’re bound to be aware of each other, I guess how they react depends on personality as much as anything, have you noticed Eddie taking more notice when she’s in heat or do you think it’s more about who nabs the food first & who’s territory it is?

Tbh, i know so little about female hamsters that i can't tell when she's in heat.
My guess would be food.
Lilly is a hoarder and Eddie is an eater.

Lilly has massive hoards but i don't really see her eating that often. Eddie seems to be munching away on something nearly every time i see him and he carries a packed lunch but doesn't keep big hoards.

They are not territorial like the Syrians who throw themselves about scenting and can't walk further than a few cm without sniffing.

I'm just wondering how to tell when Lilly is in heat considering her excitable personality.

Given her personality it probably would be difficult to tell with Lilly when she’s in heat, I wondered if Eddie’s reaction might give you a clue but it does sound as though they’re both too interested in food to think about much else!
I did notice some changes with my female Russian but it wasn’t easy to tell & I’ve never had a clue with my Chinese so I think it’s probably a lot less obvious with dwarf hams than it is with Syrians.

Lilly seems to have pouched a little log from the snuffle box. I remember Hams doing the same but wonder why as its not edible. Some kind of a trophy perhaps?

I lost count how many times Lilly has been out today.
This morning, after the second outing i tricked Lilly out of the helmet and into her taxi with food because i wanted my omelette roll.
She was furious and run around her cage climbing the bars so i left the room. She stops then because she knows there's no point without an audience.
Soon as i was back she was on her ramp again so i let her out and she continued where she had left off.
She run straight to the helmet where she had a hoard.
Maybe she was worried that Eddie would get out in the meantime.

That’s exactly what my Mickle used to do!
I love seeing her in that helmet 😍
I wouldn’t worry Lilly, Eddie doesn’t stand a chance with you on full alert!
