Mr Nibbles Diary

Yes, I don't like having wasps around in case they sting my guinea pigs. The only quick way is the shoe or the vacuum 🫠
The vacuum and then a small whiff of fly spray into the vacuum. I don't like using poison but it seems unavoidable in this situation 😔

I don't like using fly spray at all as it triggers asthma for me - nasty stuff. I tend to think if it's bad for my breathing it's probably bad for pets as well - especially hamsters with sensitive respiratory tracts. We do have those sticky fly papers though and they catch all sorts. We also have an electronic zapper that looks like a tennis racket. That works very well but never tried it on a wasp.

This is our zapper - it's called the executioner!

Fly zapper racket

According to reviews it does work on wasps as well.

We also have this spider catcher! Which is brilliant. Had one on the ceiling over the bed the other day ............

I'd prefer dealing with a spider than a wasp and don't mind deporting spiders unhurt 🕷️. You can do the fly spray thing outside or give it to someone else to do if there is another person around. But the executioner looks efficient 🪓 Thank you for bringing it up.

I think I will get one of those, practising the old back hand hand 😂

I am sitting here tonight all prepared with playpen and all…. Guess what? He’s not coming out 🙄 As if he knows I was sneakily going to clean his stinky bed! I envy those whose hamsters are clean and pee in a corner. Nibbles is a little stinker! Doesn’t seem to bother him that his bed is messy. It’s awful, poop pee and food all mixed up in one stinky mess…. I’m frustrated 😩 it’s so typical that when I am prepared he says: no mum, I am not coming out tonight!

What an exiting morning guys!
We had a visitor, a thing that flew around and went buzz buzz, it flew through the top of my house! What a cheek! But mum came and got it out 😍 she then started chasing it around and wanted it to fly out of the door. I came out and sat on my house just to make sure mum was safe. She was so frightened! Normally my mum is fierce-less like me, but she said she has a problem with these mini choppers. They can bite like me, but if they bite her she gets very poorly 🤒 I am never going to bite my mum again. I have gone back so bed 🛌
Mum has made herself a coffee to stop shaking. The buzzer is gone 😚
Brave Nibbles, you looked after Mum 🐾🥰

Before I got Nibbles I was looking to find rescue hamsters for a while, I had no luck.
Now to people are looking for homes, one black Syrien girl who looks like Nibbkes twin and a sweet longhaired Syrian boy. I feel so sad, I would love to take them. It would be a bit of a squeeze but that’s not the problem. I fear that they might have illnesses and Nibbles would catch them. I am not that experienced. 🫩 but I can’t stop thinking about them, poor little angels. I don’t know what to do…

I just received a message the teddy hamster has found a home 🙏
This little black girl unfortunately not yet.
If they don’t find a good home I think I will take her, she is 5 months old. I would keep her in a separate room for quarantine and have her poop tested.
I have already deleted my search for rescue hamster, it’s so upsetting if you get a reply and I definitely didn’t really intend to have more than one. But two would be manageable.
I can’t understand why black hamsters are so unpopular here 😢 as we used to say in horse riding: a good horse has no colour just a nice temperament.
I hope this sweet angel finds a good home 🫶

It's hard isn't it - when there are so many.

The only thing I would warn, with two Syrians is, it's hard work. They have similar routines and habits and often both want to be out every night! Usually at the same time, which isn't possible so you have one pestering while the other one is out and it can take over your entire evening and mean late nights! Females especially can be high maintenance. While I have always liked to have two hamsters, my ideal combination was one Syrian and one Robo. They have different habits at different times :-) I'm sure there are lots of rescue robos looking for homes as well. But if you have the time and energy to give two Syrians enough attention it can also be rewarding.

Robos are very popular here, I have not seen any as rescues. Syrians do come up quite frequently (unless you are looking for one 🙄)
I just feel so sad for the little black female, the people are at least looking for a good home.
I am not thinking of getting a second hamster, I am happy with Nibbles. And I am concerned that the scent of a new hamster would upset him.
The people responded to my request of looking for a rescue which I had forgotten to delete. And that’s how I found out about her. My heart just bleeds to think she’s only five months old and no one seems to want her.
I don’t know why they want to give her away, they haven’t answered my last email, as I told them I already have Nibbles. We will wait and see…
