Mr Nibbles Diary

I made a new playpen setup, dried veggie mix in the strawberry house. I put bedding (toilet paper) in the bigger room of the mch and added a cardboard floor to keep it in. And a ceramic food dish.
If he wants to spend more time in there he’s got everything he needs 😅

Up early again tonight, he came straight to the door stretching and yawning, climbed out into his taxi and into his playpen. He seemed okay with the new setup 🙏 I can only take short videos because of the flash

Is the wheel okay size wise? His back is straight, but it’s just a bit smaller than the one in his cage. He does love it though

It looks fine for a playpen. If it was a main wheel he could probably do with it a bit bigger just as it's easier to run but yes his back is fine and it's big enough. What size is it?

It’s 20 cm

I am on my fourth cup of tea and one packet of biscuits. Waiting to see when hes ready to go back in the house. Its 11.45 pm and i have a feeling it wint be soon 🤭 i have added another blanket so my makeshift bed, so i might have 40 winks in between.

Nibbles you have a nice Mum, you are a lucky hamster 🥰
Awww thank you. I thought it’s best to try and get in some kind of routine whilst I have a few days off. But I do wish I had decided to keep him in the bedroom, it would have been a lot easier for me 😅
But it’s going very well, soon won’t complain 😍
He just doesn’t seem to poop or wee much in the playpen, that’s a bit of a worry 🙄 mainly he does all that in his bed

Yes, Socks very rarely pooped or wee'd outside his cage, although I suspect he may have stopped to eat a poop now and then on the quiet 😉 Sweet boy, what a cutie 🥰

I didn’t consider that 😂
Another downside of having him the kitchen: I couldn’t use the mixer for mums cake! The old wooden spoon method worked, but my arm is killing me 😅

They don't seem to mind a quick bit of noise. I think a hamster would be able to handle a mixer for a few minutes as long as he has a hiding place to go into. Perhaps try it for a second, pause for a while, another brief second and build up the exposure depending on Nibbles' response. You could also start the sound at a distance in another room, and slowly move it closer. With dogs and cats you could offer a treat to associate the sound with something positive, but it might be tricky if Nibbles is hiding. Hopefully he won't be frightened 🙏❤️

He doesn’t seem to like noise that’s why I try to avoid very loud equipments. 😂 even the hoover. I bought one of those old fashioned carpet sweepers and I wash the tiles daily. My mixer is extremely loud and powerful, so I thought get the wooden spoon out. My nanny hated mixers and as a child she taught me how to beat the batter with a wooden spoon. It’s just very tiring but a good workout 🏋️ the cakes are surprisingly better than ever, so maybe there is some truth about the magic of the wooden spoon 😂 but I will try out my hoover and see if that’s okay 🫶

I also learned to beat with a wooden spoon for cake making and I swear the cakes taste better! It really is hard work though. I've never used a food mixer type thing for them but these days I just use an electric hand whisk for 10 minutes.

They really do taste better 🫶 I think cake and bread need to be handmade… it’s the love and effort that makes them taste better. But I think I will get one of those old fashioned hand mixers. The one you spin the wheel. Is that what you use? I would love to share these lemon drizzle muffins with you all 🫶
