My Beautiful Little Hammy

She’s beautiful 😊. I especially love the second to last photo.

Thank you. It took about 2 to 3 months to tame her. Now I can handle her without being bitten. Her cage is in the same room as me. She doesn't keep me awake. We're used to each others movements. What I like best of all, is when I'm getting ready for bed, she's not normally up. But by the time I come back from the bathroom, she's waiting for me at her cage gate, for what I call her little goodnight cuddle.

So fluffy! I can relate. Our Oaky didn't bite, but was very skittish for 2-3 months. Now VERY comfortable being handled.

Is she a big girl? Some female hamsters are.

No she's not big. I know some can be. But I think that's down to all the exercise she gets running on her wheel at night. She certainly puts in some miles. She has a 12 inch silent wheel, and I've been thinking about upgrading it to one with a mileometer on it.

Hello Hammy, you are so beautiful and cute 🥰 Welcome to the forum ♥️

Yes, she certainly is. Hammy has given me many hours of pleasure and happiness with her antics. Being single, she keeps me happy. I love talking to her, and watching her as she goes about her day. She had her first visit to a vet for a nail trim back in May, which I was a little bit worried about. But she handled it well, so I treated her to a new wheel and hammock.

In the early days, she used to nip me quite often. But she's grown out of that. As you say, Syrians are affectionate. Sometimes I wonder who has tamed who. She certainly knows how to get my attention.

Oh they definitely try to train us to do what they want ha ha. I also think they are great communicators. And can be sneaky! I had one who used to give me this look while sitting in front of his veg dish as if to say - you've forgotten my veg and I want it. I took the signal immediately and got another tiny piece of veg. I thought I had already put it out but thought - maybe I didn't - maybe I'm remembering yesterday. Five minutes later he was doing the same thing again! Now I knew I definitely put the veg out that time, so he was just trying it on for some extra!

Blossom does that! She peers in her wheel to see if there’s a treat in it…when she’s already had it lol 😂

She certainly is a little darling. Even though I'm in my sixties, she's given me loads of love and happiness back. Just gave her a load of shredded tissue in one corner of her cage tonight, and scattered some food in it. She absolutely loved it. If I could get her a bigger cage than the one she has, I spoil her rotten. Not that I don't already. Ha ha 😃
