He's defniitely perfecting them :-) Orko's dancing is always impressive! Is that a sand hide as well? I haven't seen Pip do anything except wash in his sand bath. He looks very cute and getting on with his day on the second video :)

His little chimney is on the shelf of the sand box but there is an apple hide inside his sand box. He loves using the shelf as well as the actual sand box. :)

Orko tried a puzzle I made him this afternoon. I think he was too tired to give it a good go but I am sure he will tonight.

Aw so lovely to watch Orko grappling with the parcel! Such an energetic little boy. Assume he had to go and have a sit down afterwards :-)

He really enjoys those little parcel puzzles, I’m sure he’ll have more fun with it later.

Orko is going through one of his phases were he avoids and ignores me. He often does this but this is lasting a week. He is very healthy and active all night so I know he is well. I think he is letting me know he did not approve of the spot clean. He seemed happier the next two days but then seemed to sulk. After leaving him alone for a few days I tried talking to him and he actually looked angry! I am respecting his wishes and just looking at him from my camera app. I hope he forgives me soon because I miss him so much. Cute little munchkin. :)

Aw I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe it was rearranging things with the branch - but you think he’d be happy now it’s back to normal again. Do you think he might be distracted by some time in the playpen and some hidden treats? :)

It could be that. I have been giving him treats. I cannot put him in the playpen because as soon as he sees me he goes into his burrow. He is even annoyed with my partner and avoiding him too. Luckily I have the camera so I can see how active and happy he looks at night.

Aw. I guess you can just keep talking to him and hope he comes round a bit. Did you do the spot cleaning while he was in the cage or in the playpen? Maybe scattering food will distract him so he forages for it.

I did it when he was in the playpen. Yes, I always scatter his seed mix. He is eating and drinking well. He is also enjoying nibbling forage. He loves that. 🙂

I sometimes used to find some hamsters were reluctant to come out of the cage if changes have been made while they were out. Like - you tricked me! So it's almost as if they are guarding the cage. I've usually found that once they've been out again and gone back and find nothing has changed this time, they then get past it and get more confident again. Charlie was very much like this. It depends on the hamster - some accept it easier if you do it when they're in the cage and they can see what's going on. Others get stressed by that and it's better to do it when they can't see.

Tricky if you can't get him in the taxi though. Something will need to tempt him into a taxi.

I could not spot clean with him in the cage as I needed to find his toilet. I thought that would be far more stressful for him being in the cage. 🤔 It is difficult to know what is best. Luckily it will not need doing for another six months.

I'd be inclined to leave him be till he snaps out of it. Hamsters very much have their own minds and they seem to go through phases as well.

I expect he’ll come round soon enough & agree with Beryl just to leave him to sort himself out until he’s ready to interact again.

Maybe the problem is just that as you only have to spot clean every six months he doesn’t have the chance to get used to it (not that I’m suggesting you do it more often) hamsters usually adjust & get used to spot cleaning & any necessary interference in the cage & even if they get a bit upset get over it quite quickly but six months is a very long time for a hamster so he’s probably forgotten it completely when it happens again.

That is a good point. He will not be able to get used to spot cleaning with it being done just twice a year. Hopefully he will forgive me soon. I put out a little piece of walnut as a bribe. ;)

It's always difficult to know which is best - you can only try and see which has the least repercussions!

Agree with the others - wait for him to snap out of it. You could also try a bit of reverse psychology and ignore him maybe ha ha. Maybe he'll want some attention then.

Nooo never! I talk to him every time I open his cage lid. Actually, maybe that is why he is avoiding me. 😉

Hi Rainbow, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having a stressy time since you carried out some spot cleaning. As Orko is only small and his home large it’s understandable that it doesn’t need cleaning very often, so guess it will come as a bit of a surprise to him when you do it. But it is for the greater good and necessary to his health, so I think you have to stay strong and be confident, he’s prob just being cautious that it may happen again so staying close to his burrows but he’ll soon realise all is good. Great videos by the way, he’s so adventurous and always on the move, such a cutie 😁

Thank you for your kind words. Funny thing is, he is coming out but just ignoring us like he is making a point. Funny little boy. I love him so much. :)
