Preparing for a hamster

Yes some methods will be easier for some than others. I do get complaints sometimes that the freezer is full of hamster things! Baking is definitely needed to disinfect wood after disease etc.

Plus the oven is quicker. 🙂

I tend to just pour boiling water over very hard things like coconuts or grapevines as it kills anything on the surface. Cork logs being a bit more porous, you might have to be more careful with if they had been exposed to a known infectious disease but otherwise I use boiling water as well.

Good idea. I guess you could just soak them in boiling water as well.

They are great :-) I particularly like the flat topped log - good for putting treats or veg on (and I do remember Orko dancing on his!)

I'd lodge a piece of wood or cork in the chimney of the little house.
Those type of clay hides are popular round here. They are really nice and practical.
Orko has one and I never thought to put something in the chimney. Is the chimney dangerous?

The chimney is quite narrow, I think about 1cm internally. It's probably fine but I suppose there's no harm in blocking it to be extra safe.

That's assuming there aren't two sizes of that hide. Mine is very small - Robo or small dwarf sized.

Mine are tiny too. I have a feeling there is just one size but you may be right about there being different sizes too.

I'm just extra careful since finding my tiny dwarf Clarissa with her head stuck in a small hole one morning.
No wonder you are as that was so traumatic. I have put a piece of cork board in Orko's chimney. He actually climbs on the top of the cottage.
