Second chance hamsters

I really hope that it works out and i can get her. She has been rescued by her current owner who can't keep her because they have cats.
Similar circumstances to Otto's i think.
That's a photo from the ad. If you think she's not a Chinese let me know but i'd still get her. Can't see the tail end.

I also need to look at photos of your set ups for chinese hamsters and reread elusive's article to see if i need to change anything.

She's not the usual colouring for a chinese although there are sapphire chinese now but they are rare. They are usually either normal (brown), black eyed whites, or dominant spot. With the newer sapphire colouring not seen much. There are sapphire russian dwarf hamsters though. It looks more grey than sapphire from the photo but hard to tell.

Did they say chinese hamster on the advert? She looks like a dwarf to me too - she looks very sweet whatever she is!

Aw - that would be a shame. I might be wrong - maybe a photo from a different angle?

I was wondering myself though. We'll see. Maybe i should have asked for a photo of her tail but i didn't want to. I couldn't possibly change my mind over a tail. That little face would haunt me forever.

She does look more like a Russian to me although it’s hard to tell from that photo, her nose isn’t as pointed as a Chinese nose the face shape overall looks more Russian & her ears look too small for a Chinese.
It will be a shame if she isn’t but I know she’ll get just the same tlc from you if she is a Russian.

I have messaged and asked if they are sure that she's a chinese and not a russian dwarf.

I know i said that i'd keep her anyway but that's my heart talking and there is a brain somewhere telling me to walk away if she's a russian. I'd give the people who have rescued her a few tips on rehoming though.

Fact is that i already have two russian dwarfs with health issues and don't want to take the chance of adding another.

I'm well aware that any species of hamster can take ill at any time but i believe that dwarf hybrids are at an increased risk due to poor breeding and genetics.

As for rescueing/rehoming i really want to stick to Robos who are generally healthier than dwarfs. This conclusion is based on my own experiences over the past 4.5 years.

Oh well, if she's not a chinese hamster i'm not meant to have one.
Please don’t shoot me down in flames! 😖

But if you really want a Chinese Ham why don’t you look into getting one from a reputable breeder?

I know you are not into breeding but you have done so much excellent work with rescuing poor little Hamsters over the years, spent so much time & shown so much kindness. Surely just for once you could afford to treat yourself and get what you want?

:dodging flames comin’ my way: 💕
