The Silent runner on it's stand is 35cm high so you could measure :) It also needs at least half a cm above it so it doesn't get stuck on the roof. That might sound obvious but I've had that before!

Cage setup rn. Kinda empty since I don't have the money for toys and bridges n stuff. But I'm building up slowly

It looks great. You have some nice toys and cage contents in there and I think it looks fine. If you're thinking of adding more, have you seen the cardboard creations thread? Loads of hand made toys on there from cardboard rolls/boxes etc! The only thing I'd be slightly concerned about is the chains on the little swing. Theoretically, a hamster could get a toe or toenail caught in the chains if jumping off. However the swing isn't hanging that high off the substrate so they're unlikely to end up hanging by a broken leg and more likely to be able to wriggle free. It might be better if it hung a little bit lower in that respect. I tend to use sisal string or rope to hang things by.

If you're saving up for the odd toy, this trio of balls is a nice one. I use the hyacinth ball in the cage (it's chewable and you can stick sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds under the folds and they have fun trying to get them out). The sisal ball I pull apart and use it for sisal string :). the wicker one I use for out of cage time.

Just thought I would post a picture of Orko's set up as it has changed quite a bit since I last posted a picture. The more I got to know his personality I learned what he liked and disliked and slowly made changes. There are three dig boxes; aspen, sand and coco fibre. The green stuff you see on his bedding is forage. He likes to nibble it.

Orko’s home is amazing, he’s a very lucky Robo. 😄 Is the forage mix you have from the small sprouts co you’ve mentioned before on Etsy. Bizarrely I was looking on their today but couldn’t decide which to buy?

This forage is Burgess Lucious Leaves. On Small Sprouts they have lovely things. Maybe Hams would like some of the sprays?

Yes, I think he would. He only has millet in his cage at the moment. I've just brought two of the rosewood pick n fly today and will also try the forage mix you have mentioned. (Do you freeze these for a few days before using them?)

The flaxseed ones look popular? I can't really leave whole sprays in Hams cage as he tends to over indulge and then doesn't eat his normal dry food, but it would be lovely to add some variety.

I don’t thin I saw an earlier photo of Orko’s entire cage before but this looks really lovely Rainbow, so much enrichment in there.

Yes I always freeze sprays and forage for one week. Putting little bits in for him to find sounds like something fun for Hams.😍

To prevent moths hatching out! I learned the hard way and had a moth invasion in the house for quite some time!

Nearly all pet foods contain moth eggs - they are too small to see. They don’t hatch out though unless the conditions are right - usually warm weather or when the heating is on in winter.

The way to prevent them hatching out is freeze everything for a week :)

I freeze all hanster food including treats and particularly anything vaguely grassy or hay related (freezing kills hay mites too).

It might sound excessive and some people have gone years and no issues - but believe me a house crawling with moths is no fun - when they lay 200 eggs a day!

The only things I don’t freeze are human grade treats - eg if I get pumpkin seeeds from the supermarket bakery counter.

It’s the same with all pet foods - not just hamster food. Pantry moths. They are called pantry moths because they like all the food in your food cupboards! Ugh

I had no idea about this problem. So should I freeze everything that I buy from a pet shop? Food, toys etc?

Hi Beryl, what make and size is the shelf on the front right hand side?
It's the small one, the 17cm x 17cm. It's in Eddie's Hamster Heaven now. I just took his connecting bridge off to show you the size difference between the yellow 17x17 one and the red 28x28 corner shelf. I buy them from package pets.
