Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

Yes, I confess! There is an ingredient in it that looks a bit like dates but is not very sweet. It tastes nice though. Sort of dark brown. I want to see what the grains of puffed cereal in it taste like. I tried a bit of Rollini (for hamsters) once, but could not eat it 🫢. Socks seemed to quite like it though!
I hope it doesn't turn out to be dried fresh roast insect or something 😁

It does look a bit like muesli doesn’t it? :)

I don’t think insects are listed in the ingredients :D

The ingredients are here. It doesn’t mention dates. Maybe it’s carob?

I was wondering that. I saw something called sweet lupin I'll look it up. The puffed wheat is nice, but the puffed maize needs better teeth than I have 😄

Lupin is a flower or herb.

I think it is carob. Lupins are pale coloured beans. Carob is rather nice!

The only thing I remember about Carob is that it’s sometimes a chocolate substitute and can taste sweet. So I’m sure hamsters like it too!

By the way - assume you know that mix needs the protein supplementing? It is a bit low in protein.

Yes, it occurred to me this evening. I like carob. Socks might be giving me a few dark looks! 😄

I try to give Socks some cheese or egg every day. He also gets rolled oats and monkey nuts. Yes, he spends a good deal of time on his wheel, he needs the protein. I tried him on Tuna, but he wasn't keen. He likes a small piece of well cooked spaghetti though!

I love watching them eat spaghetti ha ha. They suck it in better than humans. I had never heard of the Sweet Lupin beans before either.

I can just imagine Socks thinking - hey you've eaten the best bits!

I missed seeing him eat it, when I checked his greens bowl it had been emptied and he had gone back to bed!

He's out in his playpen now. His Happy Henry house and platform are on their way! 🏡

I'm not sure, I should. I suspect I will! I want to include it in my "a week in the life of" in February.

You need to be very careful if painting those! They fit together like a jigsaw and the plastikote does make things slightly thicker so it might not fit together. I just painted the inside and the roof of mine and avoided getting any on the slots or jigsaw pieces! Another option is to paint it after you've put it together - but then you're stuck with that configuration as it probably won't come apart again.
