As it's warmer, Socks has made his nest higher up and the area below his nest is dry, so only a semi-jumbling tonight

Socks: I have been very quiet lately and not disrupting Mom's sleep for trips to the play pen. The last time I was on my wheel I did very little running. I put on sudden bursts of speed on flat ground which could be pain related.
Mom: Socks moves his legs normally but slowly. He doesn't have stiffness in his joints, just weakness. We got Metacam.
Socks: One drop a day but it's cat Metacam. That might be a bit weak for rodents. Still, it's something. It's for two weeks and then it will be reviewed.
Mom: I cooked some butternut squash and Socks took all his Metacam which was dropped into the middle of some squash and pressed into a little ball.
It was a long day for Socks and he was very glad to get back into his warm nest

I'm sure some metacam will help socks, but one drop a day of cat metacam sounds quite underdosed to me. Maybe the vet wasn't confident in working out the dosage. I think the reason dog metacam is usually prescribed for hamsters is that it's stronger, and the equivalent dose of cat metacam would be quite a large amount for a hamster. So yes reviewing in a couple of weeks might be an idea and maybe see a different vet?

Thanks Maz, I will ask them for some dog Metacam. They are regular vets not the vets in the Exotic Department. It's a common mistake for cat and dog vets to make. He did seem fairly familiar with rodents otherwise.

That sounds good, and yes some vets aren't that up on Metacam dosages! About 10 years ago they used to just say "a drop" which is not very scientific as there are big drops and small drops and it was then found it was underdosing hamsters who have a fast metabolism (according to my vet)!
