The Guppy Ladies

Temperate meaning they don't mind cool conditions down to about 16C and don't need a heater if the room is heated in the winter months.

Why can't you keep fish? I'm relieved that Nibbles is in the cool. He will have twice his normal energy when he comes back, so you need to get some naps ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿฅฐ The fish tank doesn't really fluctuate temperature wise as it is far from the windows and sun, but you are correct. Making changes for fish depends on adjusting the water and for some fish, the Ph levels ๐Ÿชฃ I don't sleep well myself ๐Ÿซฉ I rather envy Nibbles ๐Ÿฅฐ

We are not allowed fish in case of tank breakages and water damage ๐Ÿซฃ
I didnโ€™t realise that itโ€™s so complicated with water for the fish ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I know that you need filters, thatโ€™s why I never really considered getting fish. But I love to watch them.
Yes I envy Nibbles temperatures for sleeping. Itโ€™s still very warm in the flat but luckily not so humid. I am going to visit mum now and take her some mineral water. A cold shower this morning was lovely ๐Ÿฅฐ
That makes sense ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿชฃ it's 25C outside and 27C indoors here but much nicer now ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and some nice big discus or angel fish related fish. I can't remember their name ๐Ÿค”

Thank you, yes it was 800 litres. It came through the bay window ๐Ÿ˜‚ there were angels.. Cory catfish.. boesemani rainbow fish from Australia and Congo tetras, fresh water shrimp and I think there were around 70 serpa tetras ( I think that's what they were called) and 100s of snails because they were real plants. It was a wonderful tank that hubby had specially made, the filters are in the cupboards underneath. He even injected co2 . I know now we're going too far๐Ÿ˜‚ but they were good days! ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ Ness

It's a lovely tank. External filtration is essential for really big tanks. They give you a wonderful sense of being underwater ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฟ Ah, they are tetras ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ lovely. The shrimp must have been quick at escaping ๐Ÿฆโค๏ธ but with a healthy plant growth they could do so ๐Ÿฅฐ

Mrs G is the paler fish. Mr G has been chasing her away for a couple of weeks while he was building his bubble nest, but tonight all that seems to be forgotten. Unfortunately his bubble nest has been washed away by the filter flow and water changes, but as they say, love must find a way ๐Ÿ โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ

Lovely. It's quite mesmerising. And quite a little circular ritual going on there. Will they have babies?!

Thank you โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ™ I don't think the eggs will survive in this tank. Mr G is doing his best to drive away potential predators, but the catfish are too big and the guppies too hungry. If I restarted a new Gouramis only tank there wouldn't the right tiny infusoria for the fry to eat. I don't have room for another tank anyway and finding homes for little fish would be difficult. It's nice that the gouramis can have a natural life. I felt sorry for Fishy Foo, my fighting fish as he never had a wife ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ

No, they would need a nice marshy, secluded side stream with a well appointed over growth of vegetation just big enough for two little fish and Mr G's bubble nest. Mrs G would be evicted straight after the eggs were laid and Mr G would set to work tucking the eggs tenderly into his bubbles. He would put any back that came loose and cover them in protective spit to keep away bacteria and fungi. The fry would hatch and cling to the remnants of the eggs for a while, still cared for by their devoted and now rather exhausted father. Then they would swim quickly away into the vegetation and disappear until they are big enough to school with the older Gourami fish and start the next generation โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸโ™ฅ๏ธ

What an amazing caring dad, but it sounds very complicated
Yes, his caring role is exhausting and I think often leaves the male so depleted he does not survive for long afterwards ๐ŸŸ Parenting in the wild is complicated and challenging ๐Ÿพโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ
