Tino's thread

Thank you ilguy

Well, although Tino's actual birthday is tomorrow, I think we'll be having delayed celebrations as I'm not organised for it, with us all having had the lurgy recently and being snowed up. So I'm considering whether to do a late birthday celebration, or celebrate his gotcha day in February. But I will definitely say happy birthday to him - even if he doesn't appear tomorrow!

Great photos and videos Maz, he’s gorgeous and I’m sure he’ll very much enjoy his birthday celebrations. Worth the wait to have everyone feeling better.

Loved watching Tino pop up from out of the log and then roll it over, as well as sitting on top of the grass house and the one where he is sitting up on his back legs shows his size really well. Very handsome 😊

It's so lovely see Tino having such fun and doing so much exploring! And he is happy to do some snuggling too! 🤩

Aw thank you from Tino. He's asleep at the moment. He actually wanted to come out again last night but I was too tired! He needs to come out a bit earlier! I had just got better from the lurgy and it's come back with a vengeance  So I don't want to get too close to him now as sneezing a lot!

Am planning a birthday celebration for later though .......... :-)

Here is Tino the day he came to us at less than 6 weeks old, when he squawked a lot like an angry chicken.

And ears bigger than his head :-)

And here he is at about 6.5 weeks old, the night he escaped the bucket trap. The bucket is behind the coffee table. Watch carefully at the back near the bucket at the start - he drops out of the far side of the bucket trap, wanders around bit then goes to his cage on the floor :-) It's just a short clip. I had him filmed all night with the nightcam - to try and work out where he was!

And here he is a couple of days ago - not great photos - he was busy!

He’s a cheeky sausage, you can imagine him saying, “thought they could catch me, hey!” 😁 He’s nicely settled now. He will be interested when he revisits the places he saw that night once he starts free roaming ❤️🐾

He looks at that place longingly over the top of the playpen :ROFLMAO: I remember that night well! It was the second night he was on the loose and I didn't get much sleep and kept waking to look at the camera footage on the phone. Once I saw he'd gone back into his cage, I crept down early morning - he was asleep in his house, and closed the door. I still think it was the best way to catch him - no point turning everything upside down, freaking him out and risking squashing him - I knew he was in a hamsterproof room and had taken food the night before.

Aw thank you! I hope he'll have more big adventures now he's older - and will now walk into a tube rather than run and hide!

It is definitely worth proactively hamster proofing a room when you get a new hammy ❤️

Our living room is hamsterproofed, providing I have part of the old wood playpen blocking off one corner of the room. I used to leave it up all the time. Didn't look very glamorous but it's not that noticeable! I haven't needed it for a while so took it down last year. It will be back up again before any other hammy free roams (along with a panel of the wood playpen across the door to the kitchen). Oh and providing I block the stairs off too!

Tino came out of his house at feeding time and looked like he wanted to come out again. Sadly I couldn't have him out as I don't want to sneeze all over him. But he quickly spotted a half cracked open monkey nut I had put out and looked very pleased with that and disappeared off down his tunnel with it. He had lots of extra treats tonight as well on his birthday day :-). I also gave extra treats to Higgins because it was Tino's birthday :)

It's nice that you know his birthday date. Glad you celebrated it a bit despite the horrible cold. He's really sociable now ❤️

The celebration bit will come later. We are also still snowed up! It's ice really - our lane isn't passable due to the ice, except in a four wheel drive, which is still a bit dodgy.
