Zak is having a lovely time out and about with you. No wonder he was tired afterwards. Quite an adventure for an elderly gent!

I have a pair of robins who regard my garden as their territory. When they want something to eat, one perches on my kitchen window sill or door handle to catch my attention. I put out just enough and they wait around if more is wanted on that visit. If I were to put a lot out, pigeons would scoff the lot, so I wait to be asked. Sometimes that is several times a day. Just recently I saw something for the first time. One robin picking up a piece of food and feeding it to the mate waiting nearby!

Your robins sound lovely Coco, they know they’re onto a good thing there! I have to do something similar as we have so many sparrows & starlings I hide food for the robin in the hedge by my door. It is something special to see them doing that, feeding a mate & the courtship dance is impressive too.
I think my serenade is really the robin saying “Look out this is my territory & I’ll fight you for it1” 😆

Their song is certainly impressive and beautiful. It’s a happy time now for them as we are starting to be outside gardening and a close watch is kept on our activity. I read recently that robins regard humans as spades on legs and watching this pair shows why!

My apologies Zak - you are a very patient and polite gentleman not to object to this hijacking of your thread. 😍

That’s a perfect description of how they see us! The robins song is so uplifting I always feel better for hearing it.
I’m sure Zak won’t mind, he’s used to me sitting with him saying “Can you hear the robin, can you hear the blackbird”.

This little tyke is wearing me out 😆 I’ve just spent over half an hour following him around the house as he races around investigating everything, have to stopping him from going where it isn’t safe then off he is again, he found a bag of mealworms I use for the birds & tried to chew his way into that, he never used to even like mealworms  I tried to get some videos of him but he’s too quick & I have to keep putting my phone down to stop him getting into trouble so it was a bit hopeless!

Wow, is it possible Zak has aged in reverse? What a precious little boy! He is surprising you every day. 😂

He is amazing, whatever his secret is I want to know!
That was his second time out today, he’s gone back to bed now but if it’s anything like the last few days he’ll want out again later.

Zak seems to think crocks taste better on the carpet now! I offer him one when he gets up but it’s just a quick sniff then he wants to come out, he can’t get hold of them in the little plastic lid but enjoys them on the floor & then there’s crumbs to find 😋

Then he’s off!

Finally back indoors for tea & a nap.

Oh wow Zak is so busy! Lucky boy to have all those treats. It is so lovely he wants to be out. You are spending such quality time together. 😍

He's amazing. He enjoyed his treats, went off for a roam and looks like he really enjoyed his tea. He's amazing for his age - a bit doddery on his pins at times but there's no stopping him!

Thank you.both, he is amazing. HIs back legs splay out quite a bit & he does fall over sometimes but I think he’s actually getting a bit stronger with all this exercise. There’s definitely no stopping him!

It doesn't seem to bother him!

Dear Zak , my sincere apologies for interrupting your thread again. I have been so pleased to see how much you are enjoying life at the moment.
I wanted to show your lovely mum a photo I took this morning. There was an abandoned robin’s nest in our garden. We left it alone for a while to be sure but it was in a vulnerable position. Today I removed it and it was beautifully constructed so I spread the nesting material about to encourage reuse and recycling.
Inside was one unhatched egg. I do hope others hatched and fledged successfully but that is hard to know in recent weather. I have never seen a robin’s egg before. Small and perfect and beautiful speckled colouring.

That is so beautiful Coco, thank you for sharing that. It’s always sad to see an egg that hasn’t hatched but not that unusual at this time of year especially with the weather we’ve been having, if there were others that have hatched you should see some lovely speckled little baby robins around the garden, if not they will no doubt lay again & you may have some fledglings a little later in the season.

Very cool, I had no idea hamsters could have tea! What kind do you give him? Zak has such a pretty coat, he's one handsome ham

It's not actual tea you drink 😀. It's just like a meal - bit of a British thing - having your tea rather than having your dinner. Tea time is earlier than dinner time usually! It's often kids who have tea (earlier meal) and adults who have dinner (later meal) but the two are interchangeable sometimes and we still say it's tea time when having an evening meal.

Even more confusingly, some people call lunch (the midday meal) dinner, when dinner is supposed to be at night. Probably because at school, lunch was called school dinners and we had dinner ladies.

Technically/traditionally "tea" is a kind of 5pm sandwich and cake thing with a cup of tea - between lunch and dinner. But if you eat early (say 5pm or 6pm) it tends to get called tea, whatever the food is. And dinner is an evening meal.

Apologies for hijacking slightly elusive :)

Don't worry ilguy. I've lived in the UK since 1980 and still don't know what to expect when someone says "come round for tea sometime". Could be a cup of tea or it could be a meal.

Apologies to Zak. At least you know what to expect. A crock for tea.
