Hello! Thanks for reaching out. I was thinking this morning, I need to post an update. I have been slacking on taking photos, but I am happy to report that Blue often stays up late to have a visit with my kids in the morning. He will run right to the front of the cage in hopes of some peanut. He doesn't seem too bothered by their loud voices anymore. This morning we had a nice little visit where I was able to hold him and both of my boys gave Blue some pets and pieces of peanut. He seems to be losing his winter coat and getting a bit darker as we have longer days. Will get some photos to share soon!

Slow going with the taming—fed him a few seeds through cage bars today. Seems to be getting more comfortable and, wow, I wish I could peek into the labyrinth he has going on under the surface because he turned out a huge amount of bedding today! All turfed into the sand bath

Blue is doing really well! He just popped out for an afternoon visit. I’ve noticed recently his nails are quite long. Is there any items that are good for hammies to keep their nails trim? Or is this normal and of no concern?

You can place a stone or slate tile in the cage to help keep their nails shorter

I believe dwarf hamsters nails do grow quite quickly. It's hard to see from the photo but from what I can see - although they do look long they don't necessarily look overly long. I use a rough granite tile under the water bottle (it means their nails get roughened every time they go for a drink). Or a terracotta saucer might do the same.

I got mine from Rodipet, which might not be an option for you. A terracotta plant pot base might be easier You cany buy granite tiles in other places probably, but they're usually smooth rather than rough. Some people actually have piles of stones as part of their set up, to make something to climb on. I haven't seen many people doing that these days though, as with deep bedding it would probably take a huge pile of stones to actually be above the bedding! Which might not be very secure. They need disinfecting before use as well.
