Love the way he’s holding onto his whimzee, munching away 😁

They look right to me. Dill seeds smell really strong too. I hope Eddie likes them.

Those are the ones, they are one of the things that give curry powder the familiar smell.
He may or may not like them but they’re safe to give.

Poor little Eddie is peeing a lot. Mainly in his sand but i'm struggling to keep his bin cage clean and prevent it from getting too smelly.

He doesn't always make it to his sand so the whole area gets smelly quickly.

I'm now thinking of placing his sand jar in a cardboard box with a thin layer of sand to contain it and make cleaning easier.

Don't think it would work in the small 64l rub but don't think the large 145l rub would work for him either.

I've just been to Ikea and compromised with the biggest Samla which is somewhere inbetween sizewise.

Got to figure out now where to place vents for sufficient airflow.

It is difficult when they’re peeing that much.
If he was in a larger bin could you put another sand bath in so he has more than one place to go to easily? I know how fond he is of that sand jar but he might take to using another one too.

He seems to stick to the sand jar area but a second sand bath is worth a try, thanks.

I sat looking at the Samla and planning a similar layout while Eddie was free roaming. Well, he sat outside his cage and slept between sand bath baking tin and plastic basket it sits in.
Eddie is becoming more and more lethargic and i wonder for how long his little body will be able to handle the diabetes.
Maybe it is this awful heat that's making him more tired but i have decided against moving him for the time being.
I'll mesh the Samla to have it available and hope he'll pick up again when the weather improves.
There's no indication from Eddie that he wants more space because he sleeps most of the time but it would be easier for me to keep his cage clean.
I need to weigh him. He felt lighter but i hope i'm wrong.

Im sorry to hear little Eddie is not himself. It could be to do with the weather. Sprite is not moving very much due to the heat.

I hope he has not lost weight.

It could be at least partly the heat that’s making him lethargic, it certainly has that effect on me! It probably is best to wait till it cools down a bit before changing things.
If he is losing wieght which isn’t unusual with diabetes maybe you could try giving a bit more protein, that might help give him some more energy without raising his blood sugar so much.

If he is not doing so well then a cage change might stress him. Maybe see how he goes. All you can do is keep spot cleaning really I guess. Or maybe have a bigger sand bath?

Sorry to hear Eddie isn't himself. I think you're doing the right thing by not moving him.

I don't want to take the sand jar away to replace it with something else. I may be able to make that part of the cage into a contained sand area with the jar in it which is the plan for the Samla.

He fell over a few times today and fell onto his back. If that continues and his balance is affected i need to level his cage. There's no sign of an ear infection or anything obvious. No indication of pain either. He's eating and drinking ok. Diabetes eventually affects the whole body.

I've now made a bigger sand area for Eddie which will make spot cleaning easier.
He takes these long long drinks now like Percy used to do.
He was out this morning and rummaged around the dig box without falling asleep then came looking for me with full pouches.

Eddie's sand area looks great. I'm sure Eddie will love it.
It's lovely to hear Eddie has been out and filled his pouches 🐹💕

I’m sure Eddie will enjoy having some more sand & it will make it easier to clean too.
Always lovely to hear how he’s enjoying hamstering about out of his cage too.

Probably a good move to refrain from moving him at this point and avoid extra stress, sorry to hear he's not doing well. Hope he perks up a bit, I wish dwarfs weren't prone to so many issues

Eddie is not acutely unwell or wobbly today but he has this habit of sometimes eating while laying on his side. He's been out and digging in the dig box while i cleaned his sand area.
