Gardens and wildlife

Rainbow I wonder that too! It would be nice if they are a couple & have a family, I have had little hoglets in the garden before but the hedgehog houses are tucked away out of sight so mostly I don’t know what they’re up to.

It’s tricky keeping smaller cats out Maz, you need a tunnel system that they can’t get into.
I do have one of these.
Which is really good but I had to stop using it when the neighbour was attracting hoards of rats, I dumped it down the bottom of the garden on the grass & have seen a lovely nest in it so the hedgehogs have obviously been hibernating in it some years.
It’s too heavy to lug about & too big really to have up close to the house where I can monitor what’s going on a bit easier so I’m looking for something else, I could make one but don’t feel up to DIY at the moment.

I love that you have houses and help to care for them. The tunnel system you have is brilliant but what a shame it attracted rats.

I heard something strange the other day. Somebody found a pigeon in their hedgehog house! The pigeon managed to get inside and ate the food but could not get out. They got the pigeon out safely but were surprised to see one in there.

It does look a bit big to lug about! Do cats attack hedgehogs then?

Rainbow that’s so funny about the pigeon! For such big birds it’s amazing how small a hole they can get into.
My hedgehog feeder didn’t attract the rats, the neighbour was leaving tons of bread all over his garden & the rats were everywhere.

Cat don’t normally attack hedgehogs Maz but they do eat the food. Hedgehogs need a high protein diet & a lot of hedgehog food is kibble or wet food very much like cat food.

Oh I see - so you need something the hedgehogs can get into, with food inside, that the cats can't get into.

That's a lovely garden :) And some lovely grape hyacinths in the pot. Mine haven't come out yet. Our grass isn't too long yet though as I did manage to give it a last cut quite late last year.
I gave mine a fairly late cut last year too as it was quite mild, but we’ve had so much rain and mild temperatures recently that the grass has been growing fast! But it’s been far too wet to cut it!

And we're further north so maybe the grass growing hasn't caught up here yet!

I bet the person who took that to the rescue feels silly!

I saw a baby rabbit in the front garden yesterday. It sat there for so long I wondered if it was ok. Then it scampered off and out of the garden. I clipped the long boring bit off the start of the video, where nothing happened :)

He is small but looked quite chunky as well! As long as he's the only one! He seemed to be nibbling something in the grass.
