HELP!! LOST HAMSTER

These are two home made wheels! The first is really simple with just pieces of wood, a plastic bucket and screws (if you have the right size pieces of wood and a screwdriver!) The second is the one using a fidget spinner (the ball bearings in it mean the wheel is silent). It used pvc piping for a stand instead of wood but I guess no reason wood can't be used as long as it doesn't have splintery edges.

But I think it could work out costing more to buy all the bits and pieces! I haven't had a go at making a wheel - anyone else?

Make sure the wheel is at least 8 inches for Comet. A wheel is one of the most important items for a hamster. In the wild they travel for 5 to 10 miles a night so the wheel helps them burn off their energy and get exercise. :)

8" is good but 6.5" is fine too :) People only started using the 8" ones when the 6.5" silent spinners changed manufacture and were really stiff! I think they might have improved them now but don't quote me on that! Either size is fine though.

woah.. 5-10 miles? thats a lot of miles for a tiny hamster xd

That article by Craft Crookshanks was so good (and with so many good photos of different colourways) that I've added it to the Robo section of the home page :-).

I have rescued many Robos and have two myself. All Robos were agouti natural coloured but one who had a white face and d'grey markings. I believe they are called pied Robos.
Here are two photos to show the difference.

Yes that looks like a pied Robo :) . Fascinating colouring. I love all of them lol!

right so, my little brother doesn't really pay much attention to his hamster and sometimes ignores him for a day or two, should i just have it? he's more interested in his tablet 😂 idk if the hamster needs a lot of attention but still cuz he's only 5 and doesn't really do anything for it

i asked my mom and she said that i basically already own it but still cuz i dont wanna seem rude and just take it away so what should i do? should i keep it or let him have the hamster? sorry if this question was random 😅😅😅

I'd say that at only 5 years old a child is too young to be responsible for a pet and will need the help of a parent or older sibling.

Why don't you have a chat with your brother to see how he feels about it? Maybe you can look after his hamster together.

It's not so much a matter of owning a hamster. They become part of the family

He isn't really good with speech yet, but thanks because you're right i can look after it with him, he can learn a lot from having a pet and he will be happy :D

Maybe you can keep them both in your room and your brother can come and do things with his hamster now and then - like feed him or talk to him.

Your brother is very young and he will lose interest in his hamster. Luckily you can take over the hamsters care. I think it would be a good idea for your parents to tell your brother not to try and hold the hamster because he is too young to understand how to do this safely.

It is lovely you care about hamsters. I can tell how caring you are and how much you want to do the right thing by animals.

We had a six year old who really loved having a hamster, but was a bit scared about holding him. What he really wanted was something to cuddle and the hamster didn't want to be cuddled! But he did enjoy doing taming sessions with him and talking to him. So there may be some aspects your brother could enjoy.

i have ANOTHER question.. if i adopted my hamster from a previous owner, will she bond with me how she bonded with her owner? i've heard that hamsters bond with one person better than anyone else so i'm worried that she might not bond with me as good (its fine if she doesn't tho)

Hamsters can bond with a new owner too. It just takes time to develop trust. She may even develop more of a bond with you.😀

Hamsters can also forget things in time and adopt you themselves- because you’re there :-). The bonding can be with mainly one person but by that it means out of the people the hamster lives with. For example if getting a baby hamster from an official breeder - that hamster has known nothing but the breeder and has been hand tamed by the breeder. But still bond with a new owner. You‘Ll be fine! It can take time and patience.

The other thing is, if it's in the same household, a hamster can bond with more than one person. It's just about familiarity really.

i have more question what does it mean when she runs up to her cage when she sees my laptop light? is she being curious?

Yes, i think she could be curious or maybe she's asking for a treat.

One of my Robos does that. He runs to the the front of his cage when he sees me because he wants me to give him a sunflower seed.

She might associate the laptop light with you being there so is coming to say hello and interact with you (and also maybe hoping for a treat!)

It’s a good sign. It means she’s not scared and running to hide.
