Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

Hi everyone. Quick update. We took Jas to the vets, her fur was still thin and not getting any better, possibly a little worse. I am so proud of my little girl, she was so brave and didn't bite, either of us or the vet. She's had a full exam, good weight, no lumps skin is fine. They have given us Xeno spot 50, ivermectin, just to rule out parasites, but she wasn't convinced that it was it is. She wasn't overly concerned and told us to keep an eye on her to make sure she didn't get worse. She did say we could try some vitamins.

It sounds like that was a good idea to get her checked by a vet. I’m sorry the fur loss hasn’t improved. Hopefully the spot on will help. Personally I would t give vitamins but give a pinch of hemp seeds daily as they are supposed to contain all the vitamins and minerals needed. Hamsters usually like them. Although you could try Dr S probiotic for ge real health and that contains some vitamins. Main thing is to not put vitamins in water.

Thanks Maz. She has the hemp on sprays, but I will get her some hemp seeds. I don't think I mentioned that she has the evening primrose oil as well now, which she loves.
I was just so pleased that she didn't seem too upset. I did go to the vets yesterday, to see exactly what do to and where to go and they gave me calming wipes which we did use, not sure if that was why she was so good, but whatever it was I'm grateful.

Good to hear it went well at the vet & Jas was so good bless her, also that there doesn’t seem anything too serious going on with her.
Giving some vitamins just to cover all bases sounds like a good idea, I use the Dr. S tiny animal essentials & it’s just a teeny pinch five days a week.
I’m always a bit wary of using the spot on without the vet doing a skin scrape personally. She should be ok with it for a short while though.

I couldn't give Jas the treatment until tonight as she really wasn't happy to come out of her cage and I thought she had been through enough. It wasn't easy, but she got the treatment, some of her fur looks a bit oily now, but I think that will be okay, I'm not sure what else we could have done. She was good and didn't try to clean it off, just hopes she uses her sandbath for a wash now.

It is difficult when you have to take them to the vet & then give them treatment or meds but they do usually get over it pretty quick so hopefully Jas will soon be her usual happy self & backto enjoying everything.

Quick question, the hemp seeds have arrived, do I freeze them for a week?

Great to hear your trip to the vet went well and was comforting that they feel all is good. They are never easy trips with small animals, especially those who would perhaps prefer to be sleeping, but sounds like you’ve done a fab job. Hope your special time together today is more relaxing now you’ve been able to have her checked over 😊.

(I’m not sure with the hemp, guess you could do 48hrs, but must admit I didn’t freeze mine) but I do freeze everything else.
