Leo

Leo had his first health issue.

I noticed something odd on his cheek last night. When I picked him up, I was horrified to realised it was a tooth that had grown through his top lip. It looked like a tusk. I feel awful that it must have hurt and I didn't notice, but he's not tame enough to check his teeth regularly.

Amazingly, he was still eating and drinking and hamstering around. No signs of pain but he's probably just stoic.

I called the vet in the morning and he was seen today. They gave him a whiff of gas and removed the tooth. They then gave me the pieces of tooth in a little container for some reason and when I saw the size of the tooth I felt awful.

He's doing ok now but I'll need to check his teeth regularly from now on. The vet didn't say anything about pain relief but he does now have a hole in his lip, so I gave him a dose of Metacam from my leftover supply when I got home.

I just wish I'd noticed before it got to that point 😪

Aw don't worry. It's all sorted now. It might have been painful for a short while when it punctured, but probably not after that. Maybe like a painful mouth ulcer type thing or having your ears pierced but not excructiating - if that makes sense - It will have been gradual. :-) And probably quite recent.

Hamsters are quite stoic generally aren't they, and just get on with things themselves unless we notice.

Really glad he's had the tooth removed now - glad he's still eating and hamstering along :-)
