She definitely is back to her old self. She reminded me of Raffy a bit in that video - a certain expression when meerkating and thinking - and then looking up to see if she could get out via the hanging kabob :)

Lilly - where are you going? Who's more important than me? Don't you know I've been poorly and I've got to make up for lost time.

She's certainly got her energy back, how lovely to see 😊

Aw
Lilly this morning.
Please note that this is not a 'poor little me stuck at home' hamster. She had been out twice to freeroam but couldn't come out a third time because i had to go out to help mice and a very old human.

Does Lilly use her climbing circles much I'm thinking Pete would love one he climbs anything playpen, curtains, humans it would be something extra for his playpen he likes variation and quickly gets bored with the same items

I don't think its meant to be used for climbing. Tbh, i don't really know the purpose of most shop bought 'boredom breakers'.
I like the wooden circles hanging toy because i can place seeds on them for the hamsters to find. Or wind a strand of cooked spaghetti round them.

Lilly made a right din on her saucer last night. I think it was partly caused by the sound of plastic on wood.
Easily sorted though. I placed the saucer in the lid of a wooden box with some aspen around it. Lilly gave it a quick allround sniffing inspection and seemed to approve.

That’s a really good idea, I haven’t used a saucer with mine for ages but I remember how noisy they could be!

Yes I get loud squeaking noises coming out of Pip's room at the moment, so I know when he's on his saucer. Raffy's bigger one is quite quiet. Except it walks across the carpet and bangs against the table leg!

The big saucers are quieter and small hamsters like them too. Lilly runs on the one in the hamster room.

Mine is quieter because I oiled it :) With a bit of olive oil - that was just to make it spin actually as it was very stiff when it arrived. I was careful not to get any surplus olive oil round the outside or where it could be licked. Despite this, Raffy was obsessed with getting underneath and sniffing round that area.

Lilly was out and became agitated when she noticed her hoard missing. She nipped my foot to let me know! Not my fault.

Lilly circled around me which means that she wanted me to top up the digbox. Lilly had a good dig and forage, sat and ate a sesame stick then run off to the corner to empty her pouches.
It's the corner with the big, communal sandbath they all use. Lilly spent ages in there rolling around and washing.

I often wonder about the dynamics between the hamsters living here and sharing a large freeroaming area.

Sounds like Lilly was having a great time once she’d got her dig box topped up.
I wonder too, what they think when they can smell each other & someone steals their hoard!

I'm trying to figure out why Lilly leaves a hoard next to the communal sandbath though. I know fine that i'll never be able to figure out a hamster so i'm more thinking aloud here.

My guess is, they hoard food, but before they're ready to go back to the cage, they need to depouch it. So it's a dilemma - stay out or take food home. A bit like if you'd been to the supermarket but then saw an event going on outside you wanted to take part in or watch. You don't want to carry supermarket shopping bags for hours, so you either have to miss the event and take the shopping bags home. Or dump the shopping bags somewhere and enjoy the event :-)

Or maybe she just sees it as a second home.

It’s the bit about leaving it where another ham (no names mentioned!) might steal it that I find so funny.
Miri used to hoard food & treats in her play bin, often when I gave her treats in the cage she would start climbing out of the door to go & put them in her play bin, I think she thought it was safer in there but having other hamsters using the same space & stealing it is a bit odd, if only she could talk & tell us!

Haha, yes, the first time Lilly was out she did three shopping trips and took all six bags home!
