Great videos, Molly’s so daring with her climbing but looks like she’s having fun at the same time. Had to smile at the way she leapt into her wheel and almost simultaneously went straight into full on run. Very sporty and clever

Despite all the lovely things in their enclosures, they somehow always manage to find the one thing you don’t want them to do Blossom certainly does when she’s in that kind of monkeyish mood lol

That's true! She seems well settled in now at least. I'd love to know how many tunnels there are.

Glad she's in a good routine! Every 2 or 3 is pretty reasonable, reminds me of my Cupcake who was the same way. But oh boy what interactions they were!

Molly was moved into a temporary cage in another room last night. It’s my 80 x 50 Savic Mickey 2xl so smaller than her usual cage. I set it up with plenty of things in (although was starting to run out of clean things to put in cages!) and she has some of Pip’s previous items that had been washed and put away. I also had a spare long house that works well in that cage at one end so frees up floor space.

She looked a bit surprised at first, explored everything and didn’t pester to come out again. She seemed quite happy last night and was occupied with some new millet sprays - climbing along them and attacking them vigorously.

Next job is to start emptying her usual cage and cleaning it - which is such a shame - it’s only been set up a month ago. And has about £50 of bedding in it! But she seems very adaptable.

Hopefully this gets rid of the moths for good, that must be a pain to deal with. Sucks to have to do it so early on.

Molly seems friendly enough to get over it quickly, I'm sure she will readjust to the familiar smells fine once she's back in her home.

That's good to hear, at least she's still active and out when she feels like it. She seems like a very sweet ham at heart, I have hopes she's going to have a strong bond with you

Wren used to do that too. She used to change sprays to mulch.

An update. Some of you already know I've been struggling a bit with asthma since Molly arrived. As I seem to be allergic to her. I hoped it would go away but unfortunately it started to get worse. I ruled out everything else and then one evening it was very bad within minutes of getting her out. So I have had to make some tough decisions. She will be returning to the rescue next week to the fosterer she was with before. It's very sad.

I can only assume it's a species specific allergy as I've had Syrians and Robos for years.

I am so sorry to hear this. Allergies are such awful things. I know this is going to be very upsetting for you.

I'm sorry too, but being asthmatic myself and having allergies, I completely understand. If it were only a mild allergy you might be able to cope with it, but to be triggered like that each time you handle her isn't any good for you. Perhaps the rescue will be able to find you a different hamster. And at least going back to her Foster carer you know she will be in good hands. Tough call tho

Thank you. Yes it was a tough call. I had to be realistic as it wouldn't have been fair on her either and she's young enough to be settled into a home for life with someone who isn't allergic.

Maz, I am so sorry to hear it. Thank you for making the hard call and doing this sooner rather than later. I'm sure Molly will be able to adjust, and hope you're feeling better soon.

It's really unfortunate, but I don't know what you could have done. One of those things you just have to discover

It is sad & such a shame that you’ve had so much trouble with allergies with Molly, you have to do the right thing & she really does seem like the kind of hamster that will settle well in a new forever home when she finds one & she’ll probably be happy to be with her fosterer again too.
She’s such a lovely little character, I’m sure you’ll miss her & we will too.
