Is it cat metacam Pip has? As a matter of interest, what dosage was he prescribed?

Dog metacam. 0.03ml and he's 25 grammes. Sorry - dog Loxicom! It sounded about right to me as our last robo was on that dose.

I've had cat metacam for dwarfs and dog metacam for Syrians.

50g dwarf Lilly was on 0.06ml of cat metacam post op. I was a bit surprised to read that Pip's vet prescribed dog metacam and not the less potent cat metacam for a tiny Robo.

My vet has always prescribed dog Metacam. I can’t remember the reason she gave now but maybe because it’s stronger so they need less of it.

That’s about the same as I had for Gus, 45g Chinese on 0.05ml of cat metacam.
Maybe robos have a faster metabolism & need a different dosage

It’s a Ferplast aladino Guinea pig size but there are others that are very similar. Main thing is it’s about that size. It’s 30cm x 21cm.

She does dog metacam for all hamster species. In fact I've never had anything but dog metacam/loxicom! Maybe so the bottle lasts longer? With such a tiny dose.

I know my exotic vet explained a few years ago that vets had been underdosing hamsters for years because they had only gone by weight and they now realise they have to factor in for metabolism as well, so there are quite a lot of calculations to do to get the dosage.

So Pip has been invisible since his vet visit. Clearly decided it wasn't safe to come out near humans. But last night he was out and we had a nose to nose conversation at the front of the cage through the bars for a good 30 seconds. He is doing fine but is looking like a little stooped - he is quite an old man now. He is still quite active though. I must try and get a photo of him sometime - but he comes out when it's dark and his cage is in a dim corner of the room.

Aw, how lovely you had a nose to nose chat together. Is he taking his Metacam okay? So good to hear he is still active. He does so well for his age.

I haven't started it yet I'm thinking about it and observing. It will go in baby food as and when.

With Syrians you can often interpret it With Robos - no chance! It could mean absolutely anything. It could be hello I'm glad to see you, or it could be - I want to get out of this cage for a bit but I keep changing my mind because it's scary, or it could be a sign they have a problem and want to let you know. That's what I'm observing for at the moment.
