Robin is a lovely big chunky girl :-) Syrians do vary in size and it's commonly the pedigree ones that are so large, but not always. Our first syrian was a petshop hamster and he was enormous! We thought his father must have been a guinea pig 😂 It's also commonly girls that are bigger than boys. I have one Syrian (Tino) who was a wopping 270g! I say was, he is older now so isn't quite so chunky.

I also had a teeny tiny Syrian who was only 97g when he came to me and not a baby, I was pleased he thrived and ended up being 180g. Average weight is 100g to 150g but some are much larger!

Oh yes ,I love it when they grow to be nice and cuddly. She isn't over weight either ,but quite tall. I wish she was as healthy as she seems, poor little baby is under the vet at the mo for bizarre fur loss

Oh no. She's not that old is she? Could she be having a moult?

No,sadly, she got up the one day and looked like someone had taken a shaver to her one side, then a day later another patch in her other side. It's was very noticeable as her fur is quite thick. I removed any underground hides that she could've rubbed on,but the fur loss is still continuing. The vet is baffled ,as it's not even usual to Cushing's,which my previous hammy died with. He even shoved her fur under a microscope and couldn't find anything. He gave her treatment to start somewhere, but no improvement .She is still however happy and cuddly, and eating well

How old is she now? One of mine had something like this at about a year old, in warm weather and he looked like a mangy camel. I gave him a pinch of linseeds every day and not only did it all grow back but it was lovely and thick and glossy. I was advised it could have been a moult. Although it's not summer at the moment, with heating on it might be warmth causing a moult maybe.

I would definitely give a pinch of linseeds every day though - it works wonders for fur condition and growth :-) As you probably know there are so many reasons for fur loss. If it's not mites or cushings, it could be a moult. Another cause is lack of protein in the first year, but it probably isn't that as you give her a good diet.

Thanks Maz,I will keep you all posted ! I actually give her a very varied diet ,with meal worms ,chicken, eggs, and I have linseeds etc that I sprinkle into her food. She also enjoys her fresh veg. It was just so sudden that I thought it couldn't possible be a malt. We do however keep the house nice and warm because of the hamsters,so anything is possible. I have kept them for so long,I can't ever think of seeing this before. Robin will only be one next week. That's come around quickly though.
