Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

Sock's corner loo (the en suite to be) has arrived. He lives sitting in it (reading the newspaper?)😄

I had a look at his wheel (after he had gone to bed) There is definitely lots of sticky goo and a faint cinamony smell of wee on it. It's very easy to clean though. The good thing about acryllic is that you can see what's on it. The axle is easy to dismantle and the wheel dries in seconds with a wipe. No doubt the sticky stuff will be quickly reapplied tonight 😄.

His wheel makes a soft thumping sound, but is not noisy when on its stand. I like the sound. He was running on it at 4am today and I got up to keep him company. He had a bit of an explore on a table (with me keeping him from going near the edge) and then back to his cage for a bit more running. I had a sleep and when I got up to make tea later, he went to bed.

Socks asked me to put this lovely explainer on the blog:

That's a clever video :-) And some very cute baby hamsters. The only bit I was a bit iffy about was where it showed the babies feeding from the Mother as it might mean the nest was disturbed before their eyes were open.

Yes, nervous mothers could react by killing and even eating their young. It's not a good idea unless you are extremely sure of your mommy hammy.

Lucky Socks to be taken out his cage at 4am! I bet he loved that. 😊
He was up at 5am this morning and we had a bit of a cuddle. They don't last long though! He had a sand bath in the chinchilla bath (which is still waiting to be sieved, but will be shortly) and then more wheel time. I was in serious need of my human loo, but if I leave the room, he often goes to bed. Hamsters are quite demanding pets in their own way. Eventually he picked up some food and waddled off to bed with the shopping 🛍 😌❤️. I went back to sleep for a short while. I love having him in the bedroom with me.

I set up a small Trixie corner shelf in Socks' cage. He likes to sit on it and look at what is going on below and possibly outside, and to listen. He sits very still when aeroplanes fly over, if they are coming in to London. Perhaps he can hear other small animals and birds "talking" in the night.

He still sounds very active and fun :)
Yes, he is quite a character. There is a tiny bit of sadness about him. Perhaps he finds some things a bit difficult to understand or gets frustrated. Perhaps he can't understand why I can't hear or know the things he can sense and know.
