Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

It is amazing how they can quickly sneak out when we just look away!
It was curious, I'm not sure how the rose and little dandelion root got into his watermelon bowl. He has some dandelion in his bed he likes to chew on, so it must be precious. I'd like to think they were a thank you ❤️ ... or perhaps he just dropped them in his haste to get back safely inside.

Socks' two chamber Happy Henry house has arrived. I put it together and it looks very stylish. He came out for a bite to pouch, shoved a celebratory Nibblot biscuits in sideways and went back inside with a cheery "see you later". His stash site looks like a molehill, and needs a bit of pruning, I suspect. It's the perfect place for the site of his new house once the bedding is bit more level 🏠

Socks is on his wheel early tonight! It's nice to see him. He took the tube to his playpen earlier and had a good sand bath. He was very keen to get back to his wheel and his little feet flew along even faster on getting back. He is very wary though and if I rustle he stops and looks about or moseys off back into his MCH for a bit.
Earlier I accidentally bumped the cage and there was a mega flump from his nest area. Later on, I came hoofing past as he was having his greens and he dashed off, going into his house via the carrot cottage and knocking CC to one side in his haste. Two great flumps in one day, not good!

I moved his wheel onto the bars, nearer his front door, which I think he likes. His new dual chamber Happy Henry house is at the bottom of his cage, parallel to the long side. . He went in and looked around, very nice indeed. I must put a piece of cardboard up for now for privacy and some nice bedding. I need to prune his stash tomorrow. I think it getting very full.
I have become so conditioned to late night hamster wheel sounds that as soon as I hear it rolling, I start to feel sleepy 😴 so at one point I was sitting next to the cage with my head against the rattling cage bars nodding off 😄

I put his wheel back on its stand as the rattling was a bit noisy, just in case it can be heard. Socks went indoors but I hope he comes out again, keeps calm and carries on.

So the prune occurred! I started pulling out old bedding and very old food, and Socks came our with a worried expression on his face. Oh dear, perhaps I should have out him in the playpen! He came out and picked up a piece of unearthed loo paper and started carrying it towards his MCH. I tried to pick him up, but he slipped into his secret tunnel under the ramp. It was a bit archaeological and very dusty. There was no distinct tunnel or larder, just a dense jumble of old bedding and items of food. A very old peanut rolled out, some old chews and part of a Yippee biscuit. I left his MCH as it was, although I did replace damp bedding in his en suite with nice fresh extra soft paper bedding. I found some of the shredded paper towel I had given him in the stash cellar. He must have put it there for safe keeping before the tunnel collapsed.

I fed him his greens inside his house so that he could enjoy them at his leisure. He came out early last night, about 9pm and had a look at the new arrangement, spending time in his small sandbath before plying the wheel happily. I'm hoping he will like using the Rosewood tube and dual chamber house for stash. I put aspen chips into the cage and they seem quite nice. I've ordered another bag. He has started getting Bunny Nature food and seems quite keen on it, having a good crunch at his bowl and spending a good while on the roof eating it.

Good to hear how relaxed Socks is and he did not mind you doing things in his cage The aspen chips sound like a nice and different substrate for him. :)

That sounds like an interesting excavation and he sounded ok with it - if perhaps suspicious and worried! But all’s well afterwards :)

Socks: Mom asked me to give her a hand, so I'm blogging today. My wheel almost fell over, which was a right nuisance for a fellow who loves his regular work outs! So Mom and I are looking for one with a non slip base, preferably wood as the cork is good for my paws and joints. She offered to paint plastikote on the cork and I shrugged, if you like. I love my wheel, but a new, smoother model, well I won't say no 😄

I love it when my current wheel starts to tap on the bars and rattle. The faster I go the more it rattles! Mom gets worried about noise levels, but I'm such an addict, the more rattling the better. Mom: that was well typed, no errors! Yes Mom, I have agile paws!
She weighed me yesterday, yuk. She says she has to do it again with the big glass jug as the reading changes when I move around. She's worried that I might have lost 10g. The good side is I got extra linseed and rolled oats left in my jar lid inside my MCH. Dinner at the moment is a main course of Bunny Nature and Little One with a Nibblot on the side. Mom tried one, she says they taste s Little strange. My veg course appears in the doorway in the lid. I can smell fresh coriander from my bed and basil, blanched peas, a carrot stick, sometimes sunflower seed sprouts or cheese. She gave me a brussel sprout leaf but is a bit worried that it could cause gas, so that's off the menu.

Anyway, time for bed and dreams of gliding wheels!

Socks was very obliging and weighing him in the big glass jug was easy. He is 183g at the moment, give or take a bit of stash in his pouches ⚖️
