Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

Are you thinking of getting another one? :)

The temptation is there, but not a female Syrian as Socks is a happy bachelor, I think, and I think it would be frustrating to have a female hamster nearby, for both of them.

The dwarfies are cute and interesting, but space is an issue, and potential vet bills. But then people do get stackable cages...

I have a console table with a shelf underneath :-) It's fits two 100cm plaza cages. Which is how I "stacked" mine. I don't have a cage on the bottom shelf any more though as have some bending issues!

I know that feeling! When we had our first one, suddenly I wanted more!

It would be nice to have a pet who came out during the day or early evening too. Interesting about the console. Everyone is living in flats these days!

Twice now, I've had a Syrian and a Robo at the same time. It seemed to work well as they had different needs at different times. The Robo wasn't really handleable but did used to come out during the day and was fun to watch and talk to :-)

A dwarf may be more handleable and also come out during the day. Although it's not guaranteed - they can vary.

That would be nice! The dwarf hamsters on here are lovely! I would need permission from the warden here. And a table/shelf to go over the Savic Plaza 120cm. I would love to give a needy dwarf a home ❤️

Socks: I had two nice runs last night. Mom and I spent some time together with my Rolly wheel and tunnels. With her encouragement, I got on my wheel and ran for a while, just.ping off now and then for a short circuit around the wheel and then getting in the wheel again. Mom: when Socks took a break in his tunnel, I put him back in his cage as bedtime had arrived very quickly.
Socks: I was a bit upset about it being bedtime, but did more running on my new wheel.
Mom: at 2:30am / 3:30am (whatever) I woke from a weird dream to hear Socks bar biting. I was too sleepy to scold him so I opened the top door to distract him and somehow stuffed a bendy bridge in the way. Socks climbed up the bars for a bit, slid down, partly supported by my hand, and ran around his cage for a bit, stopping in front of the frontvdoor of his MCH but not flumping off into it.
Socks: I did some running and Mom sat with her hand in the cage so that I could brush it with my whiskers or touch it with my nose now and again when I stopped running for a bit. Why? Who knows, hamsters just do things like that.
Mom: At about 5am, Socks pouched and ate some food and I saw him go into his MCH to retire for the morning. It's not really 6am already is it?

Oh goodness he's keeping you on your toes. I wonder if it's because he knows you're there?

Yes, the bar biting might be a way of getting attention. I might have to put perspex up to stop him in case he damages his teeth.

Socks went for a run around the whole room last night. He chewed on the carry mat his cage sits on while hidden behind his cage. I intervened (Socks: unnecessarily) and tucked the mat under his cage base. After a longer run all round the room, including some short stops to look for ways of escaping, he spent some time in one spot with me, using his Rolly wheel and his concertina tunnels. I think he was tired because he went straight into his tunnel when I offered it to him, and once back in his cage, went for a nap in his MCH.

He did some running as I was getting ready for bed, chewed on the Perspex barrier I had left leaning against the front door, so I took it out as I need to set it up properly if I am going to use it. Some time in the night I heard the familiar sound of bar biting coming from further away. Socks was discretely gnawing while sitting in the far corner, hunched over what he was doing. I asked him what he was doing and he looked across at me questioningly, but stopped bar biting and came over for a sniff and a pat before doing a bit of wheel running.

Socks: "keeping fit means keeping track of my bio rhythms, which are at their best at night".

Also, "Mom doesn't realise it, but she snores quite a bit". 😴😄

He has a cute habit of mumbling to himself when he is out of his cage, mainly while grooming himself, patting his coat down with his paws and making a little "hiihm huihm" noise a few times ❤️
Socks: humans talk to themselves all the time, so why shouldn't hamsters?
