Tino's thread

He is a real food monster :) But good he's in hamster routines - wake up, wash, pee, forage, possibly come out, run in wheel, organise nest and hoard, run in wheel again. I must check the nightcam videos and see if he's been doing anything else! I stopped checking them as he had the same routine each night.

He is isn’t he? :-). They’re all gorgeous though.

I've been keeping Tino's cage upgrade as a surprise, apart from posting about getting things ready for it. You'll see by the review of the Savic Aura 120 Plexi on here, that I now have one and it's going to be Tino's upgrade :-) It has the bedding in but nothing else. And it could take me another week I reckon before everything is sorted (doesn't help when car tyres need replacing suddenly in the middle of a planned project!).

The next thing to sort is fitting it in. At the moment it's still on the coffee table in the middle of the living room! Which is where I put it together thinking I might get it all sorted in a couple of days. I have the stand to put it on where his existing cage is, and it will fit on the stand but because it's so much wider it'll be a squeeze. Who needs to open filing cabinets anyway :ROFLMAO:

He is - because I'd had my spare plaza 100 set up for him originally. I didn't think I could fit another 120cm cage in. I can't really! Well I can but it will have to be over one end of the stand - and the filing cabinet drawers will only be able to opened if standing at 45 degrees to the filing cabinet! Only the top two drawers are used anyway. The other side there is a kind of alcove bookshelf with a curtain over it (because it's not very glamorous and more of a cupboard under the stairs type alcove) so there is no hard wall there and I can have the cage pushed more over the alcove way. Except that end will then be directly up against the curtain, so the plan is to maybe put some cardboard or my spare perspex panels inside the cage at that end. Just in case Tino decided to try and chew the curtain through the bars.

I just wish I had a quiet week and could get it done but it's probably going to be next week now.

Tino is much more fun than filing cabinet! I hope the move goes well!

Hello Tino, lovely to see you, he’s a fab colour, a real cutee. How lovely he’s got such a good routine. He’s going to love his upgrade I’m sure. Some cardboard or perspex sounds a good plan to deter any curtain chewing 😆

I always say I could do with elastic walls with regards to space hope you get some spare time to relax and enjoy setting it all up sure it will all be worth it 🙂

Elastic walls is a good idea 🤣

So tonight will be Tino's moving night - hopefully. I've got the cages swapped over so the Aura 120 is on the console table where his old cage was, and his old cage is on the coffee table. Which means I have to do it tonight, barring some disaster! Because when he wakes up he will notice he's in a different place. The plan is to have him in the bath when he wakes up, so I can take things out of his old cage and move his bedding and other items across to the new cage and put the last few bits and pieces in the new cage. Then move the old cage out of the room (if he can smell it he might be upset and want to go home) and put him in the new one. Hopefully he'll settle quickly if there are familiar smelling things in and the layout is similar.

Expert at work, do not disturb! Looking forward to seeing Tino in his new home!

It all went fine last night and Tino is moved into the Aura :). I made a huge mess ha ha. So a bit of cleaning up to do today then I’ll post some photos and videos. He explored everything. His initial exploration highlighted one issue - he couldn't reach his food easily despite a step so I’ll need to rethink that bit. There was plenty of scattered food though. You’ll see what I mean later. But he seems to approve!

He then seemed to do some digging after I went to bed and upended the step! So I might just swap a step and bridge around .
