Tino decided he wanted to come out tonight, just as I was about to go to bed so he kept me up late. He makes it very clear and comes to the cage door. I put the playpen up and got him out. My phone and camera were upstairs though, so I sat and watched him and talked to him for a while. He was pretty active tonight and fully of energy - and had a couple of attempts at getting out (standing up on his back legs - all he had to do was jump and hang on to the side!). He definitely needs keeping an eye on. I think he might be ready for free roaming - when I'm ready!
Anyway - I thought I'd just move the hamstercam near the playpen to film him. I wasn't sure if it was in the right place to catch anything but it did
It was actually better not having to hold a camera, but you get a shot of my foot and ankle and my shadow
Cut loads out and he spent ages zipping around and running on his wheel.
He tried to climb up my trouser leg to get out He also kept stopping and looking if I moved or went into the playpen with a sort of look as if to say - hey how come you can climb out and I can't! He had a good long session but still wanted to come out again when I put him back in the cage.
A few clips of him jumping in the wheel - he got more and more gung ho the more he did it.
The camera also captured me folding up the playpen, so here's a short clip of that, showing how quick and easy it is! Excuse the Henry hoover plonked in the background - it doesn't normally live there.

He's turned out to be such a fun hamster, and quite confident now! He's a handsome fellow! You'll need to keep an eye on him, he's strong and agile and fast when he's wants to be

Maybe because of him being so young when he came to me. It's nice he interacts with me now and knows me Yes I need to keep an eye on him! He is ready for free roaming really. I need to check all the hamsterproofing (I removed the barriers in one area). He will walk into a tube but last night he was avoiding it for a while as he wasn't ready to go back. But I think once he's in the routine of coming back to the wheel (as Raffy was) it should be easy enough to find him if he's free roaming, so I'll keep with playpen time and that wheel for a while as he loves that wheel. Then as long as I leave the wheel in the same place, he should keep coming back to it when free roaming. It's always nerve wracking the first time you let them free roam - wondering if you'll get them back!

Oh wow, i saw those video on youtube. Tino really became such a big boy right now, assuming his weight almost 200gr i guess.

Thanks Maz, i doing okayAw thank you PonyoHe's actually a whopping 274 grammes ha ha.
He is even more than i though! What a big fellas you have there. From what i see, seems he need more wider jogging track, he is barely fit on the wheel looks Tino body eat the whole wheel diameter

Yes that's his old wheel from when he was a (big) baby It's not quite big enough for him now but he does love it - he seems to remember it from his first cage. It's only about 10.5" diameter but yes a deeper track might help too. I might try adding another wheel in the playpen as well and see which he prefers.
