Tino's thread

Happy Birthday Tino 🥳🥳

Such a clever boy to make your way back to your home when you were only little. He’s really grown into himself now. 😊

Hope you feel much better very soon.

Happy Birthday Tino beautiful big boy it dosent seem 2 minutes since you were a shy new boy I remember your Mum announcing your arrival.

Happy birthday Tino - a really lovely boy and hope you have lots of treats 🎂🐹

Happy birthday Tino, you are looking super adorable as you get braver and explore around!

As mentioned on Higgins thread, both he and Tino were out in the playpen tonight - separate times obviously. Tino loves his playpen time now. He was sat on his house roof when I got Higgins out and I had to say sorry it’s Higgins turn tonight .

After I put Higgins back Tino was still at the front of the cage giving me doggy pleading eyes and in his slow gentle way - showing he was desperate to come out - standing on his back legs with his tummy against the bars and giving me pleading looks. So I quickly swapped the playpen toys over snd got him out. Tino is a bit short on playpen things at the moment and I still don’t have a new bigger playpen wheel yet. I also noticed his wheel has a big crack in it - I suspect t it couldn’t handle his weight!

For a change I got the flying saucer out - it was Tino’s first time with a flying saucer and he sort of got the hang of it straight away 😊. That’s not big enough for him either! And it’s the 12” one. He enjoyed that - ran on both his wheel and his saucer.

I forgot to mute the sound on this clip - sorry - I’m talking to him all the way through it - turn the sound off if you want!

Good job spotting that crack! I love the way Tino is trying to climb "up" the saucer, he's having fun even with a little tumble. It's a lot of fun once they decide they want lots of adventure time

Gorgeous 🥰 Tino looks rather proud of himself for sussing out the flying saucer. There is a need for extra large size wheels (that don't nod) and saucers.

Tino very much makes his feelings, wants and needs known these days. He is often wanting to come out at feeding time but doesn’t look too desperate and goes off to eat something. Until he sees me go to Higgins cage and talk to Higgins and then he is at the front of the cage begging to come out. I wanted to get Higgins out tonight so I can swap his wheel. It he was busy pouching and Tino looked desperately at me and even started chewing the bars a bit on the front door - something he has never done before. He’s jealous! Or competitive at least. He’s out at the moment.

He’s been having a fun time going between the saucer and the Carolina storm wheel and nibbling his carrot cottage and looking for a way out of the playpen in between. At least the CSW wheel is deep for him but still only 10.5”. He’s currently rollicking about in his snooze cube.

He is so sweet. Yes, he deserves a good wheel. You have an amazing rapport with him. I wonder if you ever expected it to be so good. But then you are very experienced and know what you are doing with hammies ❤️

No I didn't actually :-) He has really come out of his shell, but he's also at that age - about a year old - where they seem the most confident I think. They are all different. I have never had a hamster like Tino before! Higgins is a very different personality.

Tino was looking very worried when I was making clanging noises with Higgins cage to change his wheel last night. Higgins was in the playpen and didn't seem bothered. Tino, I think, recognised that noise as meaning change! He was sat at the front of the cage looking at what I was doing and looking worried. Although it didn't affect him personally!

Tino in his snooze cube last night while out of the cage. At one point he was upside down :-)

Aw, gorgeous. He is very responsive to the sound of your voice ❤️ The snooze cubes fits him nicely 💤

Yes I think even he realised the strawberry hide is too small for him now :-)

Tino was certainly going some in his snooze cube there. Wonder what was going on in his mind there!

Yes I wonder too!

Tino's Birthday part 2 - he had his belated birthday party/celebration in the playpen last night :-) He has a new ceramic hide for the playpen - which he saw as a tunnel and ran through it a couple of times but didn't sit in it. It's the Syrian sized one but is a bit lower than I was expecting so he'd be quite crouched sitting in it! But it does make a good tunnel! And something to stand/sit on. Instead of a birthday cake he had a Rosewood raspberry and coconut "ice cream" cone and a mini forage box. He wasn't that interested in the cone - he has had one before in his cage and had a good go at that one, but he seemed more interested in playing in the playpen initially than the new things in it.

He was out quite a long time and doing his usual things, but kept coming back to check out the forage box, and finally spent some time foraging in it :-) The mini forage box didn't actually look that interesting when I opened it. It was mainly herbs, the odd flower, and a bit of millet spray - although I believe there was the odd mealworm in there. So I hid 2 or 3 coconut flakes in it as well and that was what he seemed most interested in.

I had my proper camera out last night and put some clips together to make a video of his birthday celebration, below.

At the same time as Tino was out, Higgins was doing things in his cage! So I was videoing them both one after the other. More about that on Higgins thread, but he ended up coming out in the playpen after Tino and hoovered up any leftovers from Tino's forage box, that had spilled out.

After Tino went back in his cage, he was sitting with one paw on his water bottle and had this rather odd cute expression on his face, which I managed to snap!

While playing, he knocked over his carrot cottage and then climbed on it. It was very close to the edge of the playpen and he got his paws on the edge of the playpen momentarily! But wasn't quite quick enough to escape - he spent too long thinking about it ha ha! I removed him and the carrot cottage.

I had planned to let him have a free roam for the first time last night, but it was a bit late and Higgins was also wanting to come out - so another day.
