Charlie Boy

Charlie sounds so happy in his new home. It is lovely you have given him a deeper area to burrow. Lucky hamster getting such fine food too. :)

Ooh lucky boy - such tasty bits of food :-) I don't think I've ever known a hamster who likes carrots! I've had some who will eat it rather than no veg but make clear it's not welcome! He must be happy if he's watching you from his wheel (and probably knows food is on its way!).

Charlie's menu for tonight is mixed veggies and a few tiny pieces of baked salmon, when trying to find him now he chirps and chatters from underneath the Carefresh then when he moves about there is just a moving lump of substrate if you are old enough a bit like Micheal Bentine's potty time, yes I'm that old.......

Georges favorite veg was sweetcorn he would go nuts for that ,he didn't like carrots either....

I've never tried them with sweetcorn. Broccoli and cucumber are the favourites here. Although a blueberry causes Raffy to shake with excitement :)

Charlie has such wonderful fresh food. It is so cute he chirps when you call him. Orko likes carrot. Hehe.

Charlie likes. Blueberry though he does manage some how to eat the middle and leave the skin! He likes apple and banana too. George used to love Avacado.

They do suddenly seem less babylike don't they? It sounds like he is settled in.

Charlie update,
TBH not much to report Charlie will allow some stroking but will not entertain the idea of being picked up at all, he is off like a rocket if you even think of trying.
On the foods front, a nice bit of roast chicken is nibbled with furious abandon, he is partial to some cooked Cauliflower and Broccoli too, he likes extra mature cheddar the mild sort just doesn't cut the mustard as far as Charlie is concerned.
But oh boy does Charlie like cherries though they do tend to give him a red nose and makes him look quite devilish.
His first cage clean is due soon so that we I'll not make him a happy Hammie at all I fear.

He sounds happy and healthy! I was a few months before I could pick Raffy up (he was a biter at first). I got him used to it in the playpen wearing gloves but really it was time until he settled down and got used to me I think.

The Charlie Update 19/02/23
So things have been up and down both for Charlie and my self, but this is about Charlie.
Charlie has become a Ghost Stealth Hamster, his ability to vanish is becoming legendary..!
Since having his first cage clean he has taken to using the nice wooden house we got for him, but being Charlie he refuses to use the door and insists on tunneling under one side for his entrance/exit..!
He has also become an extreme hoarder, he has also taken to sitting in his hollow cube with his head sticking out like a tank commander in his turret.
Charlie has had two short extra cage excursions one where he just explored around the outside of the cage, and he wasn't too chuffed about being ushered back into his domicile. The second where I was allowed to pick his nibs up a short adventure onto the sofa, he did look a little out of sorts and promptly hid when back in his home.
So all things being equal, Charlie is a bit of a plonker who is a little scardy cat at times but he is getting there and looks a cute as a button with his cream fur and deep black button eyes....

Great Charlie update, how lovely he’s using his wooden house as a nest but has made his own unique way of entering it, I think that’s fab 👍 They all love a good hoard, it makes them feel settled and at home in their enclosure to know they have food hidden away.

You’ve done well taking him out a couple of times for a roam, he may seem like a stealth, vanishing hamster but it sounds like your taming is going great, it’s still early days.

I was wondering how you and Charlie were doing! Some of them take longer to come out of their shell than others. Took me months before I could pick Raffy up. What broke the situation there was having him on the sofa - me and my hands were on his level.
