I'm late to checking out the Charlie posts, but we got our hammie, Wally, in December also and we also had quite a subterranean stretch. Charlie is a cutie. Is George the hammie in your profile pic? Beautiful also. I saw that you tried salmon with Charlie. I'll have to try that with Wally as we typically keep some salmon fillets in the fridge for my picky daughter.Well the latest Charlie update,
Charlie has become a subterranean Hamster, after noticing he liked to burrow I made a deeper substrate section of his cage which he seems to like rather a lot half the time all I see is his back end vanishing into one of his burrows, other than that he is either running on his wheel or sitting still with it rocking as he watches me intently when I come home from work at silly o'clock. He likes defrosted mixed veggies though leaves most of the carrots. Today he is getting a little roast duck and cucumber as his treat so will see if he likes that, he devoured a little piece of roast beef at the weekend.

There are two blankets and pillows to hide behind or burrow under if he wishes I only let him out for a max of 15 mins at a time, he mooches around the sofa and sits in a corner for a wash and brush up.How about a blanket in a heap on the sofa to hide in and some toys with food hidden in them? Does he just sit or run around on the sofa?
Our black eyed cream Rory was a bit like that when young and didn't really do a lot. All that changed when he became more confident as he got older.
How old is Charlie now?
Just Yawning at my jokes I thinkk.......Hello Charlie I take it he was yawning? . Or was he hissing at you?!
Poppy was the Hamster Climbing champion nothing daunted her, she got behind a 2 meter bookcase and climbed to the top by putting her back against the back of the book case and walking up the wall I still can't work out how she tuned around at the top with out falling back down I know she managed it as I saw her staring at me from behind some pictures on the top..!He seems the placid type - I bet he will gain confidence as he gets older - and then become cheeky! Whenever I've had hamsters on the sofa they like going into the snooze cube - in and out, in and out. Or a tunnel sometimes. Then start climbing the back when they get braver.
Such cute photos! Wally was the same way for our first 6 weeks together, and even had a bad stretch where he was so stealthy I was posting here for help. Now we've gotten our routine and he's a Spider-Ham if we get him in the playpen with netted walls. Looking forward to hearing updates about Charlie's adaptations!Charlie Update 25/02/23
Its not been a week and Charlie aka the Stealth Hamster is still being Mr Stealthy and doing his best to stay away in his hideaway den, he comes out a little virtually ignores his wheel , he now indulges in a new sport for hamsterkind this is Speed Pouching.....!
But he seems ok with me picking him up and so has had two visits to the sofa where he seems totally lost and doesn't know quite what to do, I'm assuming he is still a little scared of the big bad outside world.
So I've decided he is a total Dingbat and a Plonker
P.S. He has something new to try tonight Pea Shoots as a change to his regular salad items Lambs lettuce tips, beetroot shards and baby spinach and blueberries
