It was useful for putting hamster cages on! While swapping two cages over eg. If I need to do that again I'll need to get the folding picnic table out temporarily. It is much nicer without the coffee table though as more space in the room.

Yes, the space is nice. You're pretty organised! 🏡

Yes it would be nice to fill the space with more hamster cages ha ha! Unfortunately the extra space is in the middle of the room so would block the TV. It's nice not to have to walk round something every time you go in the room though.

A few "out-takes" from Higgins Christmas photoshoot :-) As you can see I had an interesting set up with tinsel round the wheel and a little Christmas tree. But as usual they don't sit in the right place ha ha. There was a piece of cheese on the mini Christmas tree, which he grabbed. He found the wheel didn't spin when he climbed on it, so looked surprised! The tinsel wrapped round it restricted it. The rest of the tinsel was round the back of the wheel which is where I took the photo used in this month's competition when he sat on it :-) Eventually he sat in the snooze cube nibbling the cheese and other treats he'd found.

I think he was :-) But then he got a bit skitty with the sound of the camera clicking so I stopped taking photos then.

Before I read your lines about the cheese, I thought he had randomly attacked the tree 😄 He looks like a little bear in the pictures, very cute!

Thanks Socks Mum., that made me laugh - the cheese was on the left but maybe there was a sunflower seed on the right as well - or maybe he did randomly decide to chew it after taking the cheese off!

He does look like he's having a great time. Higgins always looks adorable in the Pringles can, I love seeing him peeking out of it

Thanks ilguy :-) Yes he likes that.

Lovely photos but I particularly love the one of him in his snooze cube peeping out ❤️

Yes I like that too :-)

Higgins had a semi clean out last night - just half his cage and more of a large spot clean. He's now peeing in two places - the round ceramic hide in the middle of the cage as before (where he also stashes most of his hoard) and the toilet compartment in his house. But it didn't really smell - he has kept it all contained and had packed loads of bedding into his house - it was stuffed full. Took me a while to find out where he'd taken the bedding from (the back corner under the shelf was pretty bare).

I had to throw most of his hoard anyway as it was in with all the pee'd substrate in the round hide. But put some new food and bedding in there. His wheel keeps getting jammed as well as he pushes bedding out under the house. I think he needs a new wheel actually. The Trixie one spins ok but not as well as a silent wheel and sits lower on the substrate (tied to the back bars) so gets blocked easily. Mind you they can block any wheel if they try!

So he was out in the playpen while I was doing that, late at night, and was highly active! He's not scared of the space in the playpen any more and had a go at trying to jump out and chew the base of the playpen. But eventually settled in a corner eating some food I'd scattered.

Here's a short nightcam clip afterwards, when I'd gone to bed. He's on top of his ceramic hide, pouching food - I put double the amount out to make up for most of his hoard being taken. You can see Tino's wheel going on the left.

And so to bed he must have tired himself out 😀

Higgins desperately wanted to come out tonight but Tino was out for quite a while - maybe tomorrow Higgins. Ever since I did his first major spot clean and had to remove his hoard (although I put new food back) he has pouched every little bit of food put out each night! It’s a shame he is now worried his food might be taken - but he should have a really big stash again now.

Yes, it makes you feel quite bad jumbling up the hoard, they know immediately that someone has been in their nest. But they do get very full eventually 🐾

I had to remove all of it last time due to my mess up with the food container but I did put lots of new food back. It was his first main spot clean as well so he wasn’t used to it. At least he takes his food now! Before, it used to just pile up and he’d snack from it.
