Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

Yes, instead of lots of energy in bursts, today, she just keeps going. I think she has been on the go since 5pm. She was already up, when I came down. I wonder if it's because it's been dark early?

It might be. Or maybe something has set her off.

I haven't changed anything? She does seem to be settling now.

Maybe just having one of those days!

We let Jas out for a free roam tonight, as she seemed to be getting a bit fed up of the playpen. She tried to chew the wall? Right in the corner, just above the skirting board, that's a bit strange isn't it? It was by the door, which she moved the barrier from, but she can't get under it. I had to keep picking her up, which she let me do, as she just kept going back to the door, but I had to put her back in the playpen, when she decided on the wall. Is she just being curious? I'm trying to keep her entertained, but I'm running out of ideas?

Sounds to me like she was curious and exploring. Hamsters have been known to chew the wall, skirting boards, wall paper. You are so caring and you are doing such a wonderful job of keeping Jas happy.

Maybe I'll keep trying, if she gets used to it, I'm hoping she will stop the chewing where she isn't supposed to. She is getting better at the handling though, she does have a little nip if she isn't happy, when I'm stopping her from doing something, but it isn't a bite at all, there is no pressure, I think she is just saying I do want to go that way 🤔. She was sitting on my OH hand the other day as well (I sneaked in a few strokes😊)

Is it possible to put something in front of the wall to prevent her from getting there? I can imagine Jas loving to free roam as she is very active. So cute you managed to sneak in a few strokes. :)

Raffy actually climbed up the wall :ROFLMAO: It was in a corner where the wall met the door. He couldn't get through the door so he was probably climbing it to see it there was another way round to get out of the door. He didn't get very far but amazed me he could cling on at all - but a right angle corner helps.

She will be chewing it to see if she can get round the door or something probably. They do some maverick things.

What I did with Raffy (who is also high energy and maverick) when I let him start free roaming, was left his playpen contents in the same place but without the playpen. He naturally started going back to that area when he got bored and running on the wheel.

He climbed the wall? That is really determined!
I like the idea of keeping the playpen area, I wonder if I maybe take a walk of the playpen down, so she has access to both, then slowing remove the rest of the playpen? I bring things out so she has access to them at the moment, she mainly ignores them, but could be because they aren't in the right place?

For boredom breakers pastes, what flour can I use?

I just used normal plain flour as it’s all I had. It worked fine.

Thank you. Is there any flour I should avoid?
