Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

So, I was doing my usual spying on Jas, when the screen went white, then a saw a leg, pretty sure a spider had walked across the screen. It freaked me out, I'm not a fan. The camera is a little way away from her home, didn't stop me checking a lot. Made me think though, with a barred cage I can't stop it. Has anyone else has an experience with this?

I wouldn’t worry about spiders in the cage, if they do get in the chances are a hamster would probably eat it!
I seem to have a lot of spiders in my house, don’t know why but they like it here! I’ve never seen a live spider in a cage though so either they just run off when they sense the hamster there or they get eaten.

That would freak me a bit too if it appeared on the screen! As Ekysuve says, a spider wouldn’t do any harm. I think there is no avoiding then sometimes. OH has just retrieved one from the bath with our spider catcher :)

I really thought I had worked out Jas' routine. She would come out around 7ish, most days again a bit later. She didn't use her sandbath in her cage, so she has it in the playpen. She would chew for attention, but was awake all evening, even if just pottering around in her cage. However, she seems to have changed. She doesn't come out now until 8 or later. She uses her toilet as a sandbath. I know this will probably be a different story tomorrow, but she hasn't chewed in a few weeks (that I'm happy about), but she doesn't stay up for long, comes out for a play and then goes to her burrow. She is still really active, and enjoys playing, when I've gone to bed. Is she just chilling out as she gets older? She's about 10 months old now.
If anyone has a recommendation for a sandbath, I would be grateful, I think I'm going to get one for her cage.

I like the Getzoo ones, do you think I could attach legs? I was looking at happy Henry, as I know I can get the dowels to attach easily

Hamsters do seem to change their routine from time to time so I wouldn’t worry too much, it can be a seasonal thing or it can be something we’re totally unaware, not always easy to fathom.

I have one of the round getzoo sand baths & it was easy to attach dowels for legs.

Are they the same legs as on my getzoo shelves? They were a pain!

Did you buy separate dowels and glue them?

I just buy dowels whatever length I want & glue them on.
I’m not sure but don’t think the getzoo sand bath comes with legs, I think the thing with the shelves is that there are holes the legs are supposed to fit into but they don’t! I’ve had that with other companies too.

The other thing about the getzoo sand bath I forgot to mention is that there really isn’t a lot of room under the top part once you put sand in there unless it’s very shallow, I glued a row of dowel pins around the back of mine then glued the top onto that so it’s about the right height for a hamster to dig or roll underneath, if you don’t want to hack it a bit it may not be the best choice.
