Second chance hamsters

The ad is still up. Gumtree has a policy that states that mammals have to be 8 weeks old before they can be sold but the seller got past the computer by giving the age as 7 weeks and set the time when they can be sold at 1 week which adds up to 8 weeks.

Gumtree also say they do not allow breeders on there but always ignore any reports I make about that. Poor hamsters. I see all the classified ads are full of back yard breeders now and hardly any people trying to rehome their hamster.

I've just reported this ad again. I also report breeders who show newborn babies.

Yes, they say that about breeders but like you say, the small ads are full of people breeding hamsters. It's not illegal and there are no regulations unfortunately. The animal welfare act doesn't seem to apply either.

I must do something about Laurence's foster cage. It has a small top and front door which makes interacting with him impossible.

I'm thinking of putting in a big top door like i did with the Plaza. Plan is to place the glass bottom with wheel etc and Laurence inside a spare Hamster Heaven while i work on the wire top. He sleeps all day anyway.

Or move him into a different cage but i don't really want to unsettle him with a move because he's a hamster for rehoming.

That is a tricky decision. I can understand you not wanting to give Laurence too many changes as if he is adopted that will be a change too. The plan for adding the top door sounds good to me.

Could you have a larger front door instead?

I prefer a top door for a new Robo because they are so fast and i don't want him to jump out.

Two of my own Robos lived in Hamster Heavens but that was different because i knew them and they knew me.

I forgot about Robos jumping. Larger top door is definitely the best option then.

What i really need for a foster Robo is a regular Grosvenor or Criceti 15. I bought the cage he's in now because i wanted the ramps and shelves. Plan was to take the cage to the tip which is what i should have done and will be doing. It is too small and i don't get on with small doors. I was stupid to set it up.

Would a bin cage work for him? I remember the brilliant ones you used to make.

I have a bin cage but that would mean changing his set up. With a barred cage i could use the shelves and stick to the same layout.
