Gardens and wildlife

Both are looking lovely - the poppies and the pinks. Glad the pinks are now doing ok. The poppies look quite stunning in a row.

Lovely to see the poppies again Coco & Maestro’s pinks look so much better now, I’m really pleased for you.

My window box is starting to bloom!
The sunflower seeds were grown from Socks' dry food 🌻and the rye (?) grass is from the local park 🌦️

There are two tiny apple seedlings now. They were a bit iffy, but once the marigolds started growing around them, they rallied and are looking much better, although still tiny. They are difficult to spot! I will post their journey (if they survive)

That's amazing you've grown Sunflowers from Socks' food! I'm impressed. What a great idea - I might have a go at that! I've tried to grow sunflowers from seed before outside and nothing ever appeared (that was packets of seed). Maybe the packets of seed were no good (or possibly birds got them!). Starting it off in a pot is a good idea. Were the apple seeds from Apples as well?

The sunflowers waiting for summer 🌞 They have flower heads beginning to appear 🤞A slug made it all the way up the wall 🧱 🪜🐌

Today at last has seen the return of sun and warmer weather. The Californian poppies are loving it and out in abundance.
The lower part of the photo above shows the two tone poppies. Not sure how they came about originally but I am always glad to see a few each year.

The apples were from crab apples I used to eat on my way to work, I kept some seeds as they were really nice ones. Yes, I put quite a lot of sunflower seeds in the pot, wondering what would happen. They don't seem to be outgrowing the pot, which is a bit of a surprise. I hope the seed heads are nice and edible for Socks. I put a windmill wind spinner next to them to keep the birds away. I have been sprouting sunflower seeds as well and Socks regards them as a great delicacy.

Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather :-) Our " no mow May" has turned into "WIld field June" :ROFLMAO: If only the grass had been cut a week ago - in the last week it has got like a field.

I haven’t cut my front lawn for a little while and it’s getting a bit long…I’m going for No Mow June 😏😝

Walking by the Thames today and there were new families on the river. The original Egyptian geese family I posted about weeks ago are well, with all 6 youngsters almost the same size as their parents.
The first new family above are another Egyptian geese family with 6 goslings, very young, grouped with their parents.
Only a little further on and there were 2 Canadian geese families close together but the 4 in a line in the middle photo are obviously younger than the 5 in the last photo.

Lovely photos! Three whole families of geese at different ages. I wonder how long the breeding season is. The Egyptian Geese look very different from the Canadian Geese.

Oh wonderful - is this in your planting box outside the window?

Yes, very convenient and pretty. I really hope they will be edible for Socks. I am also growing barley for Socks and the gin gins. The leaves of young barley seem like grass. The caution is to introduce it slowly so that it doesn't cause upset tummies. They all love it 🙂
