Gardens and wildlife

I have a load of bulbs I didn't get planted in October/November due to the torn rib muscles (gradually improving but still have to be a bit careful bending). Just wondering if it's worth putting them in now .............. With some help of course!

I remember a few years ago (maybe 10 years actually) we had snow here from November right through to March - it was there throughout, quite deep and was quite a tough winter. And that year it was fascinating to see the bulbs all coming out at once in March April. There were snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils all coming out at the same time! Which suggested to me that the Snowdrops and Crocuses hibernated and were temperature dependant on coming out rather than an exact time of year.
You’ve just reminded me that I have crocuses in my garden now which I only planted in recent times…looking forward to seeing snowdrops, crocuses, primroses, daffodils, hellebores, grape hyacinth and tulips emerge over the spring months 🌷☺️

Definitely worth it, all depends on what the weather does in the next month or so but. you should get something coming up, maybe coming up a bit late.

Thank you Elusive and Lovelyness. Will try and get them in! Lovelyness, the tulips are gorgeous and that is something I also sometimes do right through winter after Christmas, have some tulips in the house. They last for ages and brighten things up until bulbs appear outside. I just stick them on my supermarket order :)

These were through my supermarket order too! I’d actually ordered daffodils but they didn’t have any, so sent tulips instead :)

Beautiful. It's grey and damp here!

I unexpectedly had a call from a friend who had a free afternoon so we went for a walk in her local park. I hadn't walked there for ages. We walked alongside the river which was quite flooded...it looked more like a mangrove swamp in parts!

That looks fascinating. It's been absolutely freezing here. Going to freeze tonight I think.

Our temperatures were a little warmer today. When I walked to the meadow the other day, it was frosty which was good as the mud was frozen! Otherwise it would have been too gloopy to walk on!
